I wish there was one. At the moment, the closest are TAL-Sampler or Disco DSP’s Bliss Sampler—both not free. Hopefully later this year we’ll have SCXT (ShortCircuit-XT). Until then, we only have Sfizz and Decent Sampler.Paree wrote: Wed Apr 10, 2024 4:53 pmI did mention Surge at the start of Instruments section. I recently installed Vaporizer 2, it looks promising, however i haven’t dived deep with it yet.audiojunkie wrote: Wed Apr 10, 2024 3:43 pm This is a very good write-up! I agree with almost all of it. I also agree that TX16Wx is the best available sampler with an open format. It’s too bad that it doesn’t have native linux support and that the Pro version uses challenge/response copy protection. I would add Surge-XT and Vaporizer 2, but aside from that, the article is quite complete and well done! I also like that you explain your reasons for your choices. Good job!
Also, what is the substitute for TX16Wx for Linux (ideally vst3 since it is universally supported)

Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

It’s probably not as advanced as tx16wx, not sure if it has Multi sampling but maybe simplicity is a good thing.

Interesting! I remember when that came out, but I had completely forgotten about it! It looks like something similar to Ableton Simpler.

Updated that post, added this as a Linux option, i also added a lot of links for sampled instruments, mostly decent sampler, some are for kontakt which can be converted.Took NI komplete as reference for what instruments i need to search.audiojunkie wrote: Thu Apr 11, 2024 12:46 pm Interesting! I guess i will keep updating it if i find something new. I want to make a list of free vintage synth emulations as well when i have some time.

Reaper is NOT free, although some treat it that way.Zmusic3 wrote: Mon Jun 05, 2023 7:35 pm Always heard Reaper is the best option for this, but you also can do a 30 day pro tools trial and then go monthly if you don't want a serious up front investment, but want to use an industry standard daw
And Pro Tools is IMO utter crap and more and more studios are using something other than Pro Tools (and most only do because they know a lot of people buy into that '"industry standard" BS).

That's basically (in fact entirely) false. If you use it past the 60-day trial, you're pirating software, so why stop there? Go to some bit torrent site and download all kinds of "free" software you're supposed to pay for.NWSM wrote: Sun Jan 02, 2022 10:43 pm I would say (after 15 years experience)...
Free DAW (i tied some, but i bought at first FL Studio then Bitwig) for Free Alternates:
-> Reaper is free to use for 60 days. After this trial period, the developers expect you to pay for the $60 personal license, but you can still use it for free, thanks to its Unlimited Trial License — basically making it a FREE DAW.
The thread topic is free software......Want to buy a VST Synth? You only need these:
- Phaseplant and Multipass
- Synplant
- Pigments
- Rapid
- Omnispehere
- Serum

Saw this elsewhere - a good mandolin IMO (decent sampler format): https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2026/0 ... -mandolin/
