Chroma, Dreamsynth, Pro Soloist, P-10, Mercury-8, Yellowjacket, Polymode, are all excellent choices to me (although you could factor in some of these are on sale).Old Norse wrote: Fri Feb 13, 2026 10:25 pm SH-Max sounds very good to my ears. I'm thinking Atomika and...?
New Cherry Audio synth- SH-MAX!

I'd go for Atomika as well. The P-10 would probably be my next choice but I haven't demoed the Jupiter 8 one too much. My initial impression of the 8 wasn't great but I need to spend more time with it.twal wrote: Fri Feb 13, 2026 11:50 pmChroma, Dreamsynth, Pro Soloist, P-10, Mercury-8, Yellowjacket, Polymode, are all excellent choices to me (although you could factor in some of these are on sale).Old Norse wrote: Fri Feb 13, 2026 10:25 pm SH-Max sounds very good to my ears. Harmonia is interesting but it is cpu intensive.

Harmonia is nice and impressive, but it is more like a sampler with granular-like harmonic modulation by taking the sample and gliding through many semitones of said sample. Terrible explanation but it makes for atmospheric, soundscapey sound design, although it can also be a interesting yet basic sampler with effects and such. Atomika and SH-MAX are both great choices.

It is. I actually liked the faux organ stop approach though. The SH 7 is probably the only time i liked it. In combo with the standard oscillator i got all kinds of bells and whistles. The SH 3 seems kind of boring. I never liked single oscillator synths.Uncle E wrote: Fri Feb 13, 2026 7:10 pm I don't know much about the SH-7 but that does seem to be the case. It seems like VCO 1 is switchable between being standard or divide-down.
What i really liked about the SH 7 is that i could set it for "auto pilot", our term for "generative" music before chrome dome popularized the term. The SH 7 in combo with my Moog Sonic Six was all kinds of 6s and 7s
A bit off topic- but i've often considered building a hardware synth based on those two and the ARP 2600. A 26 67!

SH-Max, and Atomika are rather unique things that Cherry Audio has. I would add Dream Synth as the third along with those two if you get the "three for $99" bundleOld Norse wrote: Fri Feb 13, 2026 10:25 pm SH-Max sounds very good to my ears. That would give you three unique things that can't be found elsewhere

It's $99 for 3 on their site:mambo888 wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 10:27 am When is cherry pick 3 bundle coming? I can’t afford these high prices but have some urge to spend money…

Get the pick six instead. Spend, I mean save, even more money!
There's 2 days left on a Humble bundle that includes: Elka, Harmonia, PS-20, Blue 3 Organ, and Filtomika (filter, not to be confused with the synth) for $25 min. Plus a bunch of samples and Mixcraft 10.6 (which I wouldn't bother with).
Not a bad deal if someone was looking to get Harmonia for example.

Just bought SH-MAX after 2 mins of demoing it! People say all vintage mono (or Cherry Audio) synths sound the same but it is the quirky filters and modulation choices that I love about them - they lead me to choose sounds I probably wouldn't have thought of in a modern synth that has EVERY option. I like a good balance of restrictions and flexibility!
SH-MAX has nice filters - nice filter combinations (a bit like an MS-20) and some cool modulation options - I love that you can pan the mixer channels for example..

I jumped in and bought this. After using this for a few days now, the comment from someone earlier that 'there are only 20 or so good presets and that put me off' really is so absurd. This synth is friggin marvellous and at £37 UK Pounds is a steal. Thanks CA.
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

The SH-Max Is excellent and after going thru some of the presets i found that i liked almost all of them and this thing is full of excellent 80's Pop/Italo Disco sounds if you are into that type of sounds
It is a 70's-80's Monster

It will depend what you're looking for. To me a lot of the presets sound really cheesy. There are only a handful I've come across so far with any potential and I think I can do at least some of those things just as well or better with other plugins I already own. It definitely has potential, though. If I can get a few more patches like "Dense Thud" going, it will get some use. I probably just need to dive into it a bit more before the demo expires to really see what it can deliver but it's not a priority at the moment so I probably should focus on what needs doing.
