Alvarez makes an 8-string baritone that I've always wanted to try, but I'm hesitant to buy it online due to the poor quality of the Alvarez acoustic I had as a kid.

Ugly Metallic Sage color
Also looks sweet w/ the black pg. Eye of the beholder, etc. because to me; traditional telecaster butterscotch/vanilla sux.

...maybe yours was jacked back in the day but generally they're a pretty solid brand.Uncle E wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 6:07 pmAlvarez makes an 8-string baritone that I've always wanted to try, but I'm hesitant to buy it online due to the poor quality of the Alvarez acoustic I had as a kid.

Sure, I can believe it. A lot can change in 40 years. I just want to try before buying and it's unfortunately not the kind of thing that is around.

PRS SE NF3 are on sale at Anderton's from £429 a great price
Not a Strat, not convinced, noiseless single coil upgrade on a existing gtr would be more desirable.

I‘ve wondered about their Strat models. I have the DGT model. The coil splitter is quite good, I usually stay with it. I expect the Strat model is single coil, unless they‘re stacked noiseless.
Given up on an acoustic?

I think PRS use a partial split using resistors.Bombadil wrote: Sun Feb 15, 2026 1:17 pm I‘ve wondered about their Strat models. I have the DGT model. The coil splitter is quite good, I usually stay with it. I expect the Strat model is single coil, unless they‘re stacked noiseless.

I've just received it. First impressions in order.
I thought it might have been heavier, it is pretty light
My, that is a very pronounced V shape neck - I can live with it
Tuning peg buttons are small - and upgrade might be welcome
G string seemed a bit tight in the nut, it can be heard binding when tuning. Graphite filings might do it, I do have some nut files to widen it
The sound WTH. I’ve never played an acoustic that made me say WOW!
Full bodied projection. It sounds fantastic. Now I know what I've been missing using budget acoustics.
addendum - there's Thomann QC card in the box showing that the guitar was checked before dispatch.

Enjoy! The Adi top gives the OOOMPH. I had an Eastman E10-D and it was a cannon. The only Eastman I shouldn‘t have sold.

The color they sent me was not the color in the photo. It's actually more pleasing IRLMister Natural wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 7:32 pmI disagree with the "ugly" Mike.tapper mike wrote: Tue Dec 23, 2025 5:36 am2004 Fender American Standard Telecaster with SD La Brea Pups, Brass Saddles and a 9.5 radius "Modern C" neck profile.

I had a Yari designed Alvarez acoustic back in the 80's and a.. Matrix Ovation 12 string. Call me crazy but I loved that Ovation right till the top cracked up and bowed as it was an aluminum neck and wouldn't give.Uncle E wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 7:50 pm Sure, I can believe it. Oddly a buddy of mine who was a giant of a man loved the Alvarez Yari. the higher action wider strings and thick neck were a godsend to him. To him it sounded rich full and warm. Me I thought it sounded dark But between the two of us we had a nice blend of sound. Gave him the Alvarez as a parting gift when I left Florida and that's where the story ends.
