Sounds like something I’d like disengage as a preferential choice. If you hadn’t explained, I would never guessed. Thanks for the explanation.baconpaul wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 12:02 am When we drop if your sample has metadata embedded that wins. Sounds like that’s what you are seeing

I agree we should not take metadata into account when doing a manual drop of any kind. This should only optionally be taken into account when doing automapping (which is not implemented yet).

Yeah
its a function of double-click-to-load using the same code path as drop-to-load in one edge
For double-click-to-load you want to use metadata but for drop it is .... quite confusing
lets open an issue and we can change it.

Oh and @Weasel-Boy - if you can DM me with a way to grab the couple of samples which behaved oddly for you I can test with exactly those. Otherwise i think I have some with metadata kicking around.

issue created and one of following nightlies will have a more expected drag&drop behavior that doesn't use metadata.

unfortunately,
it crashes validation in logic 10.5.1 under mojave
crashreports saved in case of interest

Sent a DM. Thanks for dealing with this.baconpaul wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 12:07 pm

Yeah Mojave / 10.14 is below our minimum of 10.15. Sorry with other properties we’ve been able to reach back but shortcircuit and next surge version will have 15 min.

Just trying out the beta today. Like how it supports sfonts, sfz and akai as well as wav. Good mapping and effects as well. Great

Heads up, I'm about to merge a fix to the Shepard Phaser effect, which previously could produce some very unpleasant loud pops in some situations. It also uses less CPU now so that's nice I guess. New build should be up within the hour. A bunch of other larger and smaller issues also got fixed over the last couple weeks. For a rough list look here: https://github.com/surge-synthesizer/sh ... nt-Updates
And the nightly link is still in the OP. If you've downloaded a prior build I highly recommend upgrading.
Thanks for all the great feedback so far folks!

I tried the latest available vst3 version on Opensuse tumbleweed in Ardour
Opened a folder of trombone samples. The "auto map" feature is not yet enabled, which I assume would enable to drag a bunch of samples and for them to be mapped to the correct pitch. Shame. So I go to drag them on individually, the sample auto detects the root note seemingly but it shows no indicator of where that is until after the drag. The samples I have label of, for example, D3 is not what Short Circuit regards as a D3 so that was annoying. They key range not being able to be in anyway in sync with a detected root key on dragging makes laying out unnecessarily tedious.
There's a video here on multi select editing Despite me selecting multiple zones, it only edits the one in primary focus.

If you click the main menu (top right Shortcircuit logo), there's an option for different octave numbering, just FYI.
As for the rest, can you confirm what's the exact version that is written on the about screen (same menu, About SCXT...)
Automapping is in the cards, just don't know if it's going to be in 1.0 or a bit after.

My bad, checking that made me realise I'd failed to install the newest version when I thought I had. Checked again and the multi touch works fine, sorry about that.EvilDragon wrote: Thu Feb 19, 2026 7:01 pm
