Anyone who has Elastik 3, how do you cut, slice, dice, or whatever with these loops to actually make them playable within the context of a song?

I'm not talking about drum loops which have no tone. I'm talking about those tonal loops like guitar loops.

For example, you have a loop that plays G, B. D, C but your chord progression goes G D Em G/D and the loop totally clashes with the chord progression after the first note.

You like the rhythm of the loop but you wish you could replace 1 or 2 of the notes.

Is this something that's fairly easy to do or is Elastik really only good for simple drum loops that don't clash melodically?

What I had to do to get this thing to work with the song I'm working on now was nothing short of performing brain surgery.

So please, HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats what happens when you get old :)

I couldn't get elastik to make any sense even when i used the manual either.
Mac mini m4 pro, Reaper, too many plugins, Modal Argon8, Novation Circuit Mono Station and now a lovely Waldorf Blofeld.

That's what I was afraid of.

From way past experience I stopped procuring anything Ueberschall back when they went from 'Liquid' to 'Elastik'... Liquid was great as it was a licensed melodyne engine so ANY loop could be modified in ANY way so as to make 'unique' or 'your own' so you don't feel like it's somebody else's work...
Apparently they didn't like the melodyne fees so went on their own with Elastik version which is based on a clockwork doo-hickey & not transient-based whatsoever....
I have a good number of Liquid libraries they are all great... The first number of Elastik libraries were OK but then got into some real weird construction kit things...
Probably does not help but figured I'd chime in...

So in other words you can only do so much with these loops.

Unless things have changed then no, you can't... You could not back then when Elastik was new, It's hard to fathom they have not gotten better but probably that is the case... There is no 'melodyne magic' under the hood it's all a clockwork orange affair, I suppose a user could conform their music to the loops... So much for the moniker "Elastik'... I don't know what the license fee was for melodyne like in the Liquid series but it woulda been worth it...

Elastik cannot change the tone of a single slice, if you cannot live without this loop, just bounce it, slice it, and then change the pitch of this slice. Easy to do in Logic with the sampler, in Reason with bounce to Rex, etc...

Have you tried asking support?

AI Overview
Elastik 3 by Ueberschall
allows for advanced editing and manipulation of chord loops directly within its Loopeye interface. The software is specifically designed for manipulating tonal loops, providing tools to change keys, scales, and individual slices.
Here is how to edit and manipulate chords in a loop within Elastik 3:
1. Retuning and Transposing Chords

ReTune Tab: Use the ReTune tab to change the key and scale of a loaded chord loop in real-time.
Polyphonic Support: The Retune algorithm, developed by zplane, works on polyphonic (multiple notes) material like guitar or piano chords, maintaining high audio quality.
Custom Scales: You can define custom scales via a matrix or choose from presets to change the chord progressions to fit your project.

2. Slicing and Sequencing (Sequence Mode)

Individual Chord Editing: Use "Sequence" mode to manipulate specific parts of a loop rather than the whole file.
Slice Mapping: Divide a loop into slices (e.g., 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 notes) and change parameters like pitch, volume, and panning for each slice.
Reverse: Reverse individual slices for creative variations.

3. Loopeye Manipulation

Start/End Points: Click and drag the handles in the central Loopeye interface to change the start and end points of a loop.
Pitch & Formant: Adjust the pitch of specific slices or the entire loop without changing the tempo.
Resample: Use the resample option to change the pitch and speed together, similar to a classic sampler (often used for tape-stop effects).

4. Inspire Tool (Chord Variation)

Randomize & Inspire: The "Inspire" button allows you to instantly replace a loop with a similar one from your library to quickly find new chord progressions within the same genre and key.

5. Advanced Editing & Workflow

Follow MIDI: When active, new MIDI Note messages will update the Loopeye to the corresponding sample, allowing for easy, MIDI-controlled mapping.
Multi-out Functionality: If loaded as a plugin, you can route single keys (and therefore individual chords) to different outputs in your DAW, allowing for external effect processing on specific slices.

To get started, drag a chord loop into the Loopeye, and ensure the correct root key and scale are set in the Retune tab.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Thanks. Where did you find all this?

I googled and an AI Overview showed up. Should be easy enough to confirm if you look at the GUI or alternatively just ask support.
