I grabbed the Anniversary Build Your Own 5-Pack last week just to pick up most of their 'Hollywood' orchestral stuff. A bit pricy, but it's the only thing Nexus that I felt like I was missing.

I'm constantly amazed by how good Nexus 5 is. Or that I would have so much love for a primarily sample-focused synth.

Nexus is great because most of the default content has minimal or no additional FX added, and when you find something you like it's very easy to adjust envelopes, modulate with LFOs, or add FX. As opposed to Omnisphere which is dripping in FX and and full-spectrum content and you have to waste a bunch of time hunting through multiple tabs to find the components you don't like to remove them. It pairs great with Serum which provides all the screaming wub wub screech bloop stuff, while Nexus stays grounded in the more traditional sounds. Honestly the one of the best purchases I've ever made. I think my total investment has been around $350 and it's basically displaced Diva and about 70% of my Kontakt usage.

Only gripe is I wish they had more packs of natural instruments and other various non-EDM things. Not sure anyone needs a 5th Techno pack that's mostly indistinguishable from the 8 or 9 House packs.

Agreed concerning more trad/non-EDM stuff but I guess it doesn't sell.
Case in point, my most used pack is Bigtone's 3 pack as it's all pads, all incredible, and I've saved soooo many variations via turning on/off layers, altering filters/FX etc.
But it was met with a general "Meh" such that even Bigtone commented on how little interest it generated.

I don't like buzzing pads. Are they buzzing or not? Do you use the masterpieces of Korg Wavestation? I like soft and beautifully sculpted pads that can beautifully transform when using the joystick. Does Bigtone 3 contain something like that?

When Nexus opened up with version 5, i think its one of the best synths you can buy right now.

Sounds great, tons of content and its ridiculously easy on CPU.

Only thing i dont understand why unison is only 5 voices, should be at least 7 :-)

I have to point out that Nexus is only sample-based if you program it that way. Of course it can have nearly unlimited VA Oscs. One could make tons of presets without ever going near a sample.

The factory patches may be sample oriented and that's a good thing in my book since sample based synthesis is one of the most powerful methods. I just wanted people who are thinking of purchasing Nexus 5 to know that it can be a very powerful VA synth as well. I think some people still consider it a "one finger preset EDM machine" and while it does excel at those sounds it is so much deeper now and is capable of a much wider range of sounds. It has become my favorite synth to patch due to its incredible depth with 8 different synthesis methods and nearly unlimited Oscs and layers.

I agree with all of that especially the desire for 7 voice Unison which is a pretty standard number.

I would prefer them to create a new expansion consisting of soft, not aggressive, soothing, inspiring, beautifully sculpted, not buzzing pads that can beautifully transform when using the joystick. As for real instruments, I have already bought various plug-ins and libraries from other producers that try to emulate real instruments. I think this field is very competitive now, and there are some very big in size libraries taking up a lot of disk space. Do you think they will create such huge libraries/expansions?

It's been a while I opened Nexus5, but I did recently and the UI is finally like I wanted it to be when it was released. Looks so much better than the initial release. Thanks to reFX for incorporating user feedback over the last few months. :tu:

Yeah, but I think 12 or more should be standard :D A dedicated unison OSC could be fine, too.
