The iconic quote from the 1983 film WarGames is: "A strange game. The only winning move is not to play."
You can to back 8-9 years in this thread and see the same issue you can see today with RCM and people having the same feelings towards it
At this point you have to assume Roland wants it this way.
I have a ton of installers or product managers on my system even for rental/subscription services from UVI and Splice none of them have the issues Roland Cloud Manager has. It's weird UVI and Splice can figure out the monthly subscription game, but Roland can't
Also strange how so many plugins I own don't need phone home every 30 days even ones I spent significant money on like Omnisphere
It's a shame as because the D50 and the JV, JD, and XV Synths are some of my all time favorite Synths
In the end for me Roland Cloud is a strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

I wish they'd add new features or at least improve things in the D-50 and XV-5080. I'd like a full-fledged browser like other developer's plugins have.
Also for the D-50, I'd like a quick way to switch off FX, like the XV-5080 has on the front panel. It would be useful for the Reverb and Chorus to have an on/off (for me anyway), as I like to use other effects sometimes.

The D-50 needs a V2 graphical refresh like the ACB polys had.

jon, hang in there. people here can be real a-holes.
and also, count a vote for no iLok. there must be a better way, something between the current RCM and iLok.

iLok would be an improvement but feels like a band-aid solution. Aside from design issues with the Manager itself, the "Cloud" part has always been a strange outlier; the whole business model feels very geared toward discouraging you from trying to take ownership of anything you've downloaded onto your computer, given the often high price of the standalone softsynths compared to the subscription, and the focus on calling them "lifetime keys" that still require periodic re-authentication.
For a subscription? Sure, routine online check-ins only make sense. But for anything billed as "lifetime"? "Permanent"? That's just kinda giving the customer the short end of the stick for the benefit of... well, I would say stopping piracy, but it doesn't even do that. I guess that makes it symbolic DRM. I don't think that's going to stop being a big point of contention until it changes.

I wish Roland would integrate a good sound browser for the M-1 and other older plugins as well.Examigan wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 11:28 pm I wish they'd add new features or at least improve things in the D-50 and XV-5080. I'd like a full-fledged browser like other developer's plugins have.

They did have a better option before Roland cloud.JamminFool wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 7:34 pm jon, hang in there. people here can be real a-holes.

They had a site where you logged into to download and buy the products and the Authorization was done from the plugin as a 1 time authorization and if you had more than 1 lifetime license they would all be authorized as soon as 1 was authorized.
That is the registration window that still pops up to this day on many of their plugins if you open one of their products when the 30 day limit has run out.
The begining of the Cloud was also better since all the plugins was automatically Authorized if you had 1 of them in the Startup template in your DAW when the activation time was only 7 days.
After a lot of complaining they moved the limit from 7 days to 30 days but they did also remove the Automatic Authorization method trick for their plugins and forced us to open the Cloud app every 30 days instead.

Oops, my mistake. Okay, I wish for the same thing from Korg that I wish for from Roland.Examigan wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 9:57 pmM1 is Korg not Roland.MartyK wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 9:16 pmI wish Roland would integrate a good sound browser for the M-1 and other older plugins as well.Examigan wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 11:28 pm I wish they'd add new features or at least improve things in the D-50 and XV-5080. As for me i'm ok with current plugs UI, D50 particularly, i prefer such oldschool style, especially when it comes to old stuff emulation.
D50 visually even reminded me a bit S.Kullmann's SQ8L beta, that always had some magnificent feel despite outdated and weird UI.
This is in any way better than vector two colored sketch (are you sure that the dev having listened to the requests to update the UI, will not do exactly this ? I'm not, lol).
I even sort of come to terms with the need for constant installed Roland cloud manager, despite really prefer iLok (i did request about ilok to dev too).
The only thing that upsetting this is unable to saving certain plug version installer what works ok \ tested by time at your system.
IDK perhaps this is some personal paranoia because often betatesting lol, but really discomfort feel when you lose your verified plug version forever with the next update.
