Should be mentioned that Audio Finder, while a great program has not been updated in over four years, it’s still Intel running in Rosetta modenot Apple Silicon. The developer is pretty snippy about the whole thing, acting like everyone’s asking for too much when they ask what’s happening with the program. His response back is that he’s still working on what AI might be able to do for Audio Finder, I don’t really think that’s a great answer. I think he’s making money on other products maybe not related to Music and doesn’t have the time for Audio Finder. So while I have it and use it, I could not recommend it. It might be dead in the water..

I’ve been using AudioFinder for a long time, but now it’s very unstable on my M1. Eventually, I switched to Cosmos from Waves. It’s not perfect in every way, but it works for my purposes.

Thanks for pointing that out. I wonder if it was caused by his policy of free updates.
I have used AudioFinder for a long time, but I visited the website and not only has it lost compatibility with recent MacOS, he even closed the AudioFinder Support Forum: https://icedaudio.com/forum/

To be fair it mostly works in Sequoia here, and the developer to this day I believe denies it's abandoned, but it's been a looooong time since anything at all has changed with it, 6.0.6 is the same version number from like around covid or before.Michael L wrote: Tue Dec 30, 2025 8:02 amThanks for pointing that out. KVR needs to add a Forum for developers to pass ownership of their abandoned software to others, so it becomes the 'norm' to always have a plan to pay it forward when you unplug. Users can also announce abandonware, so new developers can get a leg up by building their business on an established brand, even with the old developers' advice.

He could come back with a vengeance but I would not recommend anyone spending money on it until it's at least Apple Silicon, since the OS past Tahoe is going to jettison Rosetta.

I know this is late but I remember getting a response from Richard a little over a year ago. I asked him if he's done with AudioFinder. His response?
"No, I’m super busy with AI generation now. I’ll get back around to it."
I hope so, as the current version, 6.0.6 is at least 4 years old.

I've emailed him every year about and yeah he's trying to incorporate AI learning into the browser, I think if he ever gets done it will be great, but AudioFinder is starting to show artifacts and incompatibility issues. It's still useful, but getting weird on Sequoia now.Weasel-Boy wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 12:59 am I know this is late but I remember getting a response from Richard a little over a year ago. I’m running it on Tahoe…and while it appears to still work, I’m noticing some weirdness in the form of double listings for samples in the same location. Not a showstopper by any means but just weird.machinesworking wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 1:29 am

The sample waveform display sometimes disappears here. I've got Sononym, but it's not the same, completely based on similarity searches with little editing etc. functions.Weasel-Boy wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 2:34 amI’m running it on Tahoe…and while it appears to still work, I’m noticing some weirdness in the form of double listings for samples in the same location. Right now just manually organizing. Hoping the Logic sample browser will be updated to include tagging.

I emailed Richard again a day or so ago. I sent this: "Are you going to push AF into an actual Silicon-compliant package?"
Richard replied:
"Yeah, audio finder is coming back. I’m converting audio cortex into it right now".
So it seems there is progress occurring with the app and he hasn't abandoned it. This was quite encouraging.

Im liking Tuva pretty well so far, kind of no-nonsense or minimal though. No fancy graphs that I can see.

*not using it on a mac personally btw.

I like Snapper by Audioease. It's just a background app while using the Finder and it pops up when an audio file is selected.

Sorry... question from left field...kidslow wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 6:12 am Sononym keeps chugging along and getting better and better. I like that the dev team has an open board showing all the plans for current development and next. Most open development team out there for a commercial product. Even if they are a bit slow, they deliver.
How does Sononym handle long audio files - like actual music files - not samples.
I'd like to gauge how Sononym performs in finding similar sounding cues. The way we work is that we have a theme file and from that we derive dozens of cues for series we work on and sometimes it's hard to remember where stuff actually comes from - especially a couple of years down the line...
Yes, they have a demo - but it's expired here since I had that on my system a while back and then didn't get to actually test because... work and life...
