Tell me how you really feel about Gibson Today

Yes I've had a few LP's Yes I liked the Norlin Era two piece mahogany Custom the best.
The last time I played an actual Gibson Les Paul (or any model) was 2018. It was a custom and I was unimpressed.
I had a samick lp copy that was "My" LP standard. It was pretty damn close to the Dwayne Allman. More so than my 72 or 58 Standard.
So this comes up on my feed today.
My question is focused on today's Gibson not the ones I have memories. Sure I think the LP Supreme looks pretty. I think it sounds great. I think it will be forever out of my range and If I were to purchase a LP style guitar it would most likely be a Sire L7 Although I'm fairly sure I'd be replacing the tone caps as it's still on the bright side for my ears.

Given my prior experience with a LP and 3 SGs, I can‘t be bothered to look at them. They lost all credibility with me. I don‘t care who‘s in charge, now.

The 2014-2018 Traditional's and Signature I've played had incredible tops, wonderful 50s-style chunky necks, and incredible tone. That said, I'm completely burnt out on figured tops and have no interest in them now.

I keep on hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel with Gibson. Like this is the time they will turn themselves around (like fender did when it became FMIC. It just never happens.

My Ibanez Flying V in the seventies was a great guitar, sad I sold it.

My 2007 LP Std
- woods is a very nice build
- setup, hardware and frets crap
- pickups may be a personal taste, but swapped Burstbucker Pro's as well
But 19 years ago as new, no clue how they are today....

I have a Stanford ES-335 and LP clone, with SD '59 pups in both. The LP clone is light as a feather, and would be my choice for a gigging electric. Both are far superior to any Gibson I've ever played. Right out of the boxes.
EDIT: New pic and thought I'd mention that these are nitro-lacquer finished.

Lol. No, that pic was taken after my chemo and radiation. I was quite weak when it was over, and I bought the bench to rebuild my muscles. Unfortunately we have limited space, I‘m 6‘3“, and the bench was too small for me. We no longer have it. Now, I do it on a mat on the floor.
But the weights may have come in handy had I an original LP, lol.

This SG Junior from their current line up gives me GAS. Never liked the default cherry red.

At least it is not ridiculously high priced, but for a simple no nonsense instrument $1499 is still too much.
How is Gibson's quality control these days?
Edit: Just watched the video. Still crap apparently.

I had a Wine Red Jr. 2007, I think. I liked the deep red better than Heritage Cherry.
I think it was 695€ @Thomann. It was ok. The neck was classic baseball bat and while it didn‘t buzz or fret out, I could feel irregularities in the depth of the fretboard to the string. Sold it.

Used prices will be well under $1,000. That would be a great guitar for the money. Worth noting that it's not hard to find vintage 60s Jr.'s for under $1,000.mountainmaster wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 5:48 pm At least it is not ridiculously high priced, but for a simple no nonsense instrument $1499 is still too much.

If I knew what you have been through I would not put such a blunt "joke".Bombadil wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 2:27 pm Lol. No, that pic was taken after my chemo and radiation. - sorry to hear that
Nothing strange about having gym stuff at home, many have or go to a gym to stay fit.

Yeah, I tried a ‚fitness studio’ once in 2012-13. I had gout in my feet during that time, and almost never went. Then they extended me for another yearbecause we were a day late with the membership cancellation.
I wish we had more space. We could use a separate room for music, and another for fitness. We have a 1 bedroom flat.
BTW, I don‘t share that stuff to make people uncomfortable. It‘s just a fact of my recent life, and I share it matter-of-factly.
I had my first app‘t in almost 3 years with an oncologist yesterday. Still cancer-free. Still haven‘t regained all my strength. But I‘m here, something I did not think would happen, 5 years ago.
Thanks for your kind words, though.

EDIT: maybe I‘ll take another pic of those guitars. That weight bench brings back unhappy memories.
