Some silly numerical sounds for my Patreon Reward pack 61, a lo-fi pack that may not be that useful but is mindless fun!

I sampled myself saying the numbers 0 to 10 in a Casio SK2. This early 8-bit sampler (circa 1986) has a sampling rate of 9.38kHz and a sampling time of 0.6s. As its memory can hold only one sample, I recorded them one by one using its built-in microphone. When playing the 32 mini keys, that single sample is then spread across the keyboard, transposed up or down, being slowed down or sped up.

I recorded the output of each key via the small built-in speakers. The result of all this is a lo-fi, grainy, noisy and crunchy sound. I especially like the lower notes.

352 wav files and an extra soundfont version of each of the eleven numbers, total size is 59.9 MB.

To create the soundfonts, I first made programs in Native Instruments Kontakt 6 and then converted them to the sf2 format using the free “Convert With Moss” from Jürgen Moßgraber. Conversion seems fine but, it is the first time I ever used it, let me know if you spot a problem.

Soundfonts tested in Plogue Sforzando (desktop), the B-Ray Software SoundFonts and Bismark bs-16i apps (iOS).
