This I do agree with, especially the SRX stuff. I think the visual style looks neat, is clearly readable and is pretty distinct from other plugin devs. The main thing I'd ask for on that front, from a quality of life standpoint, is better general resizeability - though I of course understand that's a good bit of work and there may be higher priorities.

I agree. I don't think the RCM is bad, and I don't mind having to log in regularly. It only takes a few seconds. But I only use everything in the studio, where it's probably less of an issue than live. And as for the instruments, I can only say that they are excellent. I own a few things from the Legendary series, including the D50. I wouldn't be without them.

If anyone just needed the basic sounds, they had Anthology which had a decent amount of their synths in sampled form. You couldn't manipulate much at all of course, but the main sounds were there.

It’s not available anymore, but I saved it before they took it down from the site. One good advantage is it doesn’t need the RCM.

If Matt67 ever moves out of the basement he/she/they/them might be without internet access and then he/she/they/them will be screaming for iLok support. Everything is fine until it's not.

If I am ever without the Internet, virtual instruments would be the least of my worries!
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

If I didn't have the internet, I wouldn't read such strange things.

Well, fun case.
In fact (it seems to me) for the first half\year (without internet), all probs associated with plugs would really fade into the background. But, over time, I think I'd still want to. And then the offline method would come in handy. (as well ofcourse in any case need to be alive for using this)

No internet needed, not as flexible, but still:

I still like the possibilities of a regular synth plugin. Samples are usually not enough for me, but they are convenient.

Grabbed 1080 tonight, liked his sound, gritty stuff.
(The only thing, did not found the same beautiful envelope element "End L" as in D50. But ok)

Btw, I also refresh a bit my feels on RCM; I haven't used it in a while, and wanted to check how quickly it would ask for a connection, and yes, it did, ok. But what I wanted to say is that it showed updates for the synths I had installed (D50 with Digital PolySynth bundle). I updated, and VST2 was deleted forever lol. It was only a minor update (in the case of D50, it was from v1.14 to v1.15). This is exactly what I wrote about earlier – lack of access to installers, which would allow user to preserve it. Fortunately, VST2 isn't a deal-breaker for me (although I prefer it when given the choice), but I imagine there would be other users for whom it would be. Also, I don't see a changelog in RCM; it's sometimes useful to read it before installation. If everything is done exclusively through the manager, it would be nice to take advantage of all its potential advantages, which could include a changelog.

Anyway, at positive note - 1080 really nice thing. Together with D50 this is sort of grit+organic true powerhouse  . with some weird in a good way things.

I'm leaving this discussion. To all those who are so critical of RCM here, I can offer a piece of advice (even if no one is interested). Stay away from Roland and buy other products.

"Buy other products" is kind of a meaningless thing to say when people are criticizing a specific product. We're talking about a flaw in this product. It is, for the record, a good thing when people consistently call out bad business practices, especially when it comes to businesses trying to play games with the customer in terms of software ownership.

Following your advice just gives those other plugin developers you speak of more precedent to do the same thing. It's just a kind of "put your fingers in your ears and pretend your don't see it" type suggestion. This DRM/licensing system isn't really a matter of taste or preference between brands; it's a problem, an area in need of improvement. You don't really fix problems by ignoring them.
