Looks like a unique synth!

Looks like another Plaits.
Plaits are cool, but the evident lack of flexibility is off-putting. At least there are mod times.

I love music, worked with a number of music/rhythm/dance games like Pump It Up, In The Groove, Cytus and Deemo, and teach music production.

If they are still freely available I don't see why not.

Setting the bar high right off the bat. I was going to gently remind you the rules say only free fx plugins allowed, but I was incorrect. Looks like it says clearly right at the top they are allowed this round.

I see this about samples: "sampling a bass drum in order to get a consistent sound is not allowed either.
Samplers used must be host samplers or freeware and easily available."
If sampling is not allowed for drum audio wavs, in what instance would they be allowed?

I think it does not matter anyways now that I think around the issue. I was going to load into Digitakt because that's how I like to sequence drums, but realized it sounds like to stay truer to the contest ethos, I could just sent the midi from that into an ableton drum rack with Fletchworks loaded. That could actually be really cool as a way to keep the drums more alive anyways. Not something I normally do, but I'm sure I'll learn something along the way.

It is allowed as in freezing, meaning, that you would render the whole audio track to save CPU usage, with a couple of synths in the past that were very CPU hungry it quickly became impossible to playback a project with many instances, so freezing or rendering some tracks was necessary to finish a project.

Post

Just to expand on JR, what you must not do is render e.g. a kick to audio. Then copy and paste that audio clip down the track to create your kick drum track! You must program your kick track in MIDI down the whole track. You can then freeze/render that WHOLE track to audio, thus avoiding using the synth for the kick anymore (and saving CPU). Same goes for any instrument.

Basically if you freeze/render to audio at all, it MUST be the whole track.

Same goes for samples, you must not cut and paste an audio sample down a track either.

Hope that makes sense?

Oh yes, freezing and bouncing is a necessity for me still. Normally I love amp sims and tons of stuff that eats CPU. Although, for this challenge, using barebones mixing plugins, it should actually be a relief to not have to do that as frequently.

Makes sense. Good clarification- I definitely in the later parts of a track have would have at least been copying and pasting large sections. It seems you can, just not with bounced audio.

I'm actually really excited to see if I can come up with something. Time-stretching, reversing or pitching up bass parts is how I often make melodies, so this will be a whole different mindset. Might have to play with some more midi tools alongside the keyboard.
