Yes, from you. I already explained what I want. I want a custom GUI, not pseudo-custom with just a few predefined controllers to choose from on the usual grey background. I want to see faders with shadows under ther knobs (alpha channel), I want to see raster graphics background textures instead of just one shade of grey, I want to see pre-rendered knobs, that kind of stuff. There's a lot of Live users out there, there must be at least one example that really shows how much can be done. Shouldn't be a problem to find such example. Or is it?

I dont think you particularly did, no. This is literally all you said about M4L's UI capabilities.
It's close but not close enough, especially regarding custom GUIs.
Clearly the second assertion was incorrect, since the YT video shows how to use your own graphics. And you can't use your own graphics.

An idiot on Set Theory:

I think most M4L developers are going for a look that is compatible with Live but there are some exceptions that show you can get closer to what you are wanting egZeisner wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 5:27 pmYes, from you. Thanks! It's a step closer but I would really want to see an example showing such custom graphics in Live's channel strips.aMUSEd wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 5:52 pm I think most M4L developers are going for a look that is compatible with Live but there are some exceptions that show you can get closer to what you are wanting eg

You cant even do your own research so no chance of building a useful tool

A full featured external instrument plugin, most of the ones I've used don't include program change messages etc. so you have to use another track to get PC messages to that hardware instrument. Bitwig at least lets you add a MIDI FX program change plugin.musicartist99 wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2026 9:00 pm Is there a feature that you would like to see in any DAW but is not there yet ?

Search engines are not what they used to be. But I'm sure you can provide an example of what I asked for...VariKusBrainZ wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 6:24 pm You cant even do your own research so no chance of building a useful tool

And they say that everything has been done regarding DAW features...
There's so many possible things to improve or create, too bad the generative AI music trend will almost certainly slow down if not end the DAW development
I know, another AI mention again, but it's a reflection of reality, where we can't escape this thing wherever we go, at least online

Some kind of built-in and convenient to use rolling sampler. So sound design sessions are easier and don't require setting anything up. Or just for resampling any happy accidents easily.
Also I wish the MIDI editor in Ableton was more refined and simpler to use with multiple instrument tracks at once.

Ypu keep moving your goal-posts like you were getting paid for it - at this point it's getting outright comical.

We are so spoiled with possibilities, that this demand is simple to fulfill. Just ask a LLM to build your own DAW. It has the advantage, that you can’t ask anybody but the AI to help you when you get stuck.Zeisner wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 10:32 amIdeally as customizable as possible, similar to software like SynthEdit or FlowStone. It would be amazing to build your own channel strip with all the functions you ever dreamed of inside a dedicated editor (Of course with your own GUI) and the result gets compiled into a high-performance DAW-native format, replacing the default channel strip (if there is one). This would enable you to build the perfect mixer.
And yes, you can build UI’s in any detail you want in Max and Max4Live… But it requires more skills than writing demands on an arbitrary forum without being precise about what exactly you want to achieve and why. Even for asking the AI to build it needs more skills… Not talking about the skills to create music with a DAW which has more to say than AI generated music…
Anyway without sarcasm get Reaper…

I have yet to see a DAW that allows stemming out a project in a way that you don't have to go track by track. I've worked with Ableton, Logic, FL, and Bitwig, so, of course, I don't know if Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, or Pro Tools offers this.
But given the existence of tools like Bounce Butler, it still seems like there is a lot of room for improvement. Many producers I work with dread the moment they start exporting. Soloing each track, so it still goes through the different routing levels, still sounds the same when you import the audio tracks in to a new project, takes forever!
It could just be that it's the nature of grouping and sub-grouping tracks and buss effects. That there is simply now way for a DAW to export every single track with the same length, through the same busses, and keep things consistent.

I've been considering Reaper but it's the same problem with scripts needing to be compiled on the fly. The more complex something gets (and a custom mixer is quite complex), the worse performance gets.
