"From Beyoncé to Billie Eilish, from Drake to Taylor Swift to Kendrick Lamar, the Renaissance plugins have arguably been used on more recordings than any other plugins in recent music history. The reason: a one-of-a-kind combination of great inimitable sound and super-simple workflow."
That's what I just read on Waves homepage, Drake oh..., Swaylor Twift oooh....
maybe it is time to change the brand (just kidding)
Yes, I admit I was influenced by a name once.
When IKM released Sunset Sound Studio reverb, I had to buy it, not because I am a fan of Sunset Sound, but because an artist I like recorded there a lot for quite a long period.
There are all these Neural DSP plugins with names like John Mayer, Santana etc
or IKM expansion like Brian May
or Omni Sheps or CLA or
Arturia JM Jarre sound expansion or
NI Alicia Keys piano for Kontakt or ..
what else is there?
Did you buy a plugin cuz it was related to a name?

I look askance at IKM "Slash" whatever it is because I can't stand his playing. But I'm not really in the market for that in the first place. If I was though... Other than that, no. I'm no kind of target for marketing anyway.

I often look at something like some guitar sym that’s supposed to replicate the sound of some famous player. I’ve never bought even one tho. At least not since the Jimi Hendrix stuff I bought from IK many years ago.

I definitely would if I recognised the person as a star. I thought Billie Eilish was a political activist. I'm out of touch obviously.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I love Waves Renaissance plugins, but now that I have read all these names associated with Renaissance plugins, I am not sure if I will enjoy using them in future the way I used to.
I am wondering and can't even remember why I visited Waves homepage today.

I did buy the Jimi Hendrix thing from IKM back at like Amplitube 2, because they were modeling things after the sound. The Univibe is pretty good in that, and the amps themselves are shockingly live, I got one to legit rattle giving it tons of gain.

I remember IKM had all these drum kits of famous drummers like Billy Cobham, Bozzio...
they were included in some synth (a kind of rompler) with options to buy expansions, don't know if that synth still exist, forgot the name

Maybe a Greta Thunberg sample library of protest chants and shouts would hit the spot!Aloysius wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 8:02 pm I definitely would if I recognised the person as a star. I thought Billie Eilish was a political activist. I'm out of touch obviously.

I don't care about endorsements or artist names on plugins. It makes no difference to me. I just think, "Oh, that's who they've paid to say they like it or associate their name with it".
The only time I was actually interested was Novation's AFX Station. AFAIK Richard James actually did have some meaningful input to the update. It looked good and had some cool functionality added to it.

Tangerine Dream - sequencers, preferably those that can ratchet
As a guitar player, I was interested in David Gilmour's gear. Never bought anything based on that though.
