Yup... it's all developing very fast. Not just Genres, but the quality as well.

Millions of uploads that nobody will hear so who cares?

To combat the AI invasion, I just did a song old school. Limited myself to 8 tracks. If I had to go beyond that, I bounced tracks. Ran it through all the old sound FX I could. Really think I nailed mid 60s.

No loops. No samples. Everything played note for note the old school way.

Cool, I remember 8 tracks recordings back in the day, too. I upgraded to Roland VS1680, loved it.
The limitations left space for creativity.
Your song doesn't sound over polished, that's what I like, way more natural, like played in a rehearsal room or small venue.
How did you manage to make it sound like that on a daw? No hardware?

What did the guy get arrested for? In what way is what he did illegal?

I don't get it, either.
I mean Spotify creates fake ai artists and don't get sued?
To use AI is legit, I thought.
I think the point is he found a way to get a lot of plays/streams by using ai as fake listeners, but again that's what Spotify also does.

That's fantastic! Completely in the old style – with electric guitar, vocals, and
harmonica. A beautiful, catchy melody – almost like something from the 60s.
It provides a nice counterpoint to the overproduced and over-engineered
music you often hear these days – whether AI is involved or not.
It's fun just to listen. Why don't you do more of that? Great! :tu:

First I used the console that the Beatles used in the early days. A Redd 37 emulation. Then I ran it though IK Multimedia Tape 80, which is a Teac/Tascam analog 8 track recorder emulation. Then on the final mix, I mixed it down to 2 channels through RC 20 Retro Color, which is a cassette tape recorder emulation.

By the time I was done, it sounded like the crap I used to record back in the day. Actually, it may sound even worse.

I could. I mean I could just do old Beatles like recordings for the rest of my life. But then I'd have tons of plugins that I spent 10s of thousands of dollars on that I'd never use again.

So I may do another one of these once in a while. We'll see. I have to admit, it was a lot of fun doing this.

I like it more than overpolished mixes and your result shows even more creativity imo.
Did you use Waves Redd...?
I have Waves Redd, there are two different models.
75% of plugins I bought I use rarely, 25% often.
I think that's normal after many years and the most used ones are my first plugins like Waves Horizon plugins etc
I would like to hear more like that from you, it has a way more natural vibe and some drum breaks are really cool.

Yeah, Waves Redd. I have almost all their plugins and I use them a lot. Probably some of the best purchases I've made.

I had a feeling you'd like this track. It's really old school right down to the bouncing and recording in mono so the "stereo" is the old Capital records panning trick to simulate stereo because they didn't have true stereo back then.

There are two more Waves plugins that might work great for this style wait! I also use them sometimes.

Waves have great Abbey Road reverbs, too

Do you know or have these plugins?

I have both the Kramer Tape, which can get really dirty and distorted, and the TG12345. Yeah, I could have used either of them but I was going for a more Beatles like sound on this one. Even my John Lennon wasn't terrible. LOL

Post

Maybe for another track.
The Kramer plugins have lots of character, i like it, but it is not the best choice every time, of course

Waves Reel ADT is for vocals, as far as I remember the Beatles also used that technique.

Your new track really is a big positive surprise, great 60s sound with that dirty guitar
