so i read the OP asking about piano sample library plugins, and i then clicked on the most recent page of the thread and naturally, most of the answers are pianoteq.
“kvr: where we answer the questions that we want to answer and our favorite reverb plugin of 2026 is pianoteq.”

I can see why someone that finds eg., Kontakt pianos resources-nefficient or can't stand the RAM load would prefer a modeled piano. I can imagine the charms of modeled behaviors of a grand piano. But chiming in 'samples are over' as a reply to a query on sampled instruments is the quality of imposition a child lacking parental guidance does.
I know from my usage what I'm not hearing in any demonstration of the thing, and I'm not throwing money at investigating how true or not is that impression.

I wouldn't use the pianos of Pianoteq, it has other strengths, thoughyhvh wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 1:25 pm so i read the OP asking about piano sample library plugins, and i then clicked on the most recent page of the thread and naturally, most of the answers are pianoteq.

Oh, the fav reverb of 2026 is pianoteq?
I thought it might still be Diva,
I was obviously wrong.

the recent Steinberg Etude Elements, although limited, was a nice surprise. 29 eur and small footprint. Just one mic of a Yamaha C3X, but sounds good out of the box.
Modern D is probably the best Sampled piano I own regarding responsiveness, detail and control, but strangely I´m not in love with its tone - a bit too cold. Very dry, so good for tweaking with your fav FXs.
NI Claire is almost perfect and has a tone to die for, but there are some small details that make it fall short IMHO (release sounds a bit off, some notes are severely out of tune and it can have a sort of compressed sound baked in). Never tried Noire, but now I´m curious.
The VSL pianos simply don´t do it for me.
UAD Ravel, if bought for $29 or whatever price they make it during sales, can also be valuable. can be quite dynamic and has a characterful sound, rather different from your concert grand. resonance modelling sounds like a marketing thing, but it actually works quite nice.
