If anything, I'm actually less inclined to buy any celebrity-endorsed product.
If I like the plugin I'll buy it anyway, but that's usually a deterrent.

I think it also depends on how they promote the product.

It’s not a problem to mention an artist as an user in order to provide “validation” of a good product, it’s also good if an artist provides actual good insight on how to use a certain tool… what really puts me off is when a famous name is used to push a bland product or if the famous name takes a lot of space in the marketing of a product (stealing the show from the actual product).

If it feels like they are selling me an artist while I’m paying for a tool, then I’m way less likely to buy it.

When I saw this thread title, I assumed it was asking if the name of a plugin influences whether or not I buy it. So that's the question I'll answer. And the answer is yes. Some plugins have names that are just too stupid for me to own.

Just like I’m not going to use a DAW with a name like Fruity Loops or Bitwig. I’m sorry, but I have self respect.

No. Though now I will steer clear of Discodsp and Temecula dsp for sure ;)
Soft Knees - Live 12, Diva, Omnisphere, Slate Digital VSX, TDR, Kush Audio, U-He, PA, Valhalla, Fuse, Pulsar AUDIO, NI, OekSound etc. on Win11Pro R7950X & RME AiO Pro

@jam Yeah, avoiding 2 of the best DAWs on the market because of their silly names is a real big brain move for sure. *taps noggin*

Post

I prefer to buy plugins where the lead software developer's name is relevant:

Compressor - Ed
Delay - Lulu

I already use the very best DAW on the market. It’s good enough that I don’t need any other DAWs.

I certainly don’t need any loop toys.

You really expected anything better from jamcat?

Post

Sadly no. But I can't be too hard on the ol' cat. He calls FL Studio "Fruity Loops" so the poor bastard clearly thinks it's still 2002.

What does the FL stand for?

I was hungry one day and I though maybe I could download food much like I download extra system ram.
And I thought wow Fruity loops looks like a cool video game, then I found out I could make music with it. How time flies. :phones:

I don't recall it ever being referred to it as "FruityLoops Studio" (but who knows, my memory's not what it used to be).
