Yeah! Also looks like they want to redivert the cashflow currently heading in the general direction of Stockholm. :ud:

No mention in the leaked material regarding the capacity of that rechargeable lithium-ion battery, though :?:

The fact that it comes with a battery and a microSD slot (to load your own samples) makes this worlds better than the Behringer machines imo.

I have no desire for a large MPC or hardware device, but something like this could be great for portable creativity.

I'll wait for the medieval version.

The more I consider, this machine looks tiny, if using the microSD card slot for scale.

Post

Reminds me a bit, visually, of an office calculator.

Here you see it compared to its 1988 ancestor, size-wise.

Gotta say, I'm a little intrigued by this for a couch-surfing beat machine. The real test will be how they balance the minimal interface with usability.

The Roland boutique version of an Akai MPC. :)

Apparently it's going to be around 400 euros and the internals seem to be pretty much exactly the MPC Live/One original (2GB RAM and some small amount of storage). Pretty sure this is the product they are dumping the rest of their Rockchip RK3288 surplus.

The only thing worrying me a little is the lack of a touch screen. There are so many things you need to use the screen to get things done quickly on the MPC Live. Slick workflow in general has never been AKAI's strong suite for the past 15 years or so, in my opinion so this little thing could be in a world of hurt if they haven't sat down to seriously optimize workflow.

Used MPC Ones go for around 400 on ebay... not as small or portable so theres the tradeoff. But probably more functional.

This probably will have a much more limited workflow, which could improve it's accessibility for newcomers?

I like the concept of an MPC for sample work, but I also wonder if it is just more tedious than working on a PC? I mean a laptop is pretty portable if you don't necessarily need pads. And on the Laptop I can drag and drop and not have to remember key combinations or menu dive, generally. And using key combinations and menu diving are what I always try to avoid.

That's exactly how I feel. I've been eyeing the Elektron Tonverk (what I'd really like), or the Akai MPC One+, or the Roland SP404 mk2. What I really want, is the mk2, but the sequencer is so bare bones, that you have to go all the way back to the Ensoniq Mirage to find a sequencer as barebones and useless as the Roland SP404 mk2. But everything else about it seems so immediate and awesome. Supposedly, April is when Roland usually puts out an update. I'll be watching to see if they add any sequencer features to it or not. Otherwise, I'll be looking at the Akai stuff again. I can't afford Tonverk. :)

Every few years I get an itch for a drum/sample machine with a sequencer. I dig into specs, price, and dial in features I want. Then eventually I abandon when I realize my PC does all I need and likely much easier. :dog:

I'm surprised someone hasnt made a bank of pads, knobs, and faders that attaches to a tablet and then developed an MPC-like software. Or even a similar shroud for a laptop that doubles as a case. Make it an MPC haha

That's exactly what I do too!! That's why I bought Zebra 3 today, after two weeks of researching sampler features. :hihi:
