I'm actually really excited to see if I can come up with something. Time-stretching, reversing or pitching up bass parts is how I often make melodies, so this will be a whole different mindset. Might have to play with some more midi tools alongside the keyboard.
OSC is a whole new ballgame. It does focus you on sound design with the synth of the month, composition and mix/mastering. All with certain restrictions.
Basically the notion is to allow the "sound of the synth" to shine through, and not be modified by external modulation so as to be unrecognisable. So hence the ban on the use of chorus, phaser etc.
But note well, if the synth has built in FX such as a phaser or distortion, then you can use that and destroy the sound as much as you wish!
