I'm a bit stuck on trying to capture a sound character...
I like to replicate sounds that I hear in songs from hardware instruments, but cannot quite get there with this one. It's the sample and hold resonant character in the first 10 seconds of this video.
I have been using the Roland System-100 plugin and Arturia Arp 2600. I have heard Depeche Mode using this type of sound in some of their earlier music but not sure which synth.

Depends a bit on the filter architecture. The fastest route is to use a regular old bandpass filter. Some low pass filters get very close to a bandpass response with high resonance settings. Using a sample and hold that can be triggered by note ons is a good move as each random cutoff also has an envelope triggered for amp and filter if you want it. Or you can use a step sequencer to get something similar but not actually random. A big part is a crazy high modulation depth so that you'll go from very deep almost inaudible bass to high frequency chirps. The arp plugin can do this. I'd be amazed if there weren't many many presets that use the sample and hold and filter in this way.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes trying those parameters can get close but the ringing resonant character, I've not found in any built in patch and I've searched them out and tweaked away. It could be where the difference in hardware and software shows up. I hope someone can prove it wrong.

The 100m has a S&H module, you just need to feed that into the filter. LP with low cut, high reso, adjust speed using the lfo (set to lfo in s&h module, or noise)
Don't have vst version , but this pic might help, but did it in a hurry
DM would have used the 2600 for this, and that has a S&H part, but I don't have access to it right now

Thanks very much, I'll have a closer look and see if I can match the parameters. It's a quest I'm on now to match it in software

It's really easy in software, I use it all the time, but I'm afraid I don't have those two in vst world.
Hope you manage to figure it out

The LFO of Synth1 has "stepped random" as a waveform. That's the Sample&Hold you're looking for.
