It's to protect the other members. Nothing wrong with that.

Fair point — totally get the reasoning behind it, especially given how much scam activity forums have to deal with.

Guess it just means I need to spend a bit more time actually participating in discussions first, which is probably a good thing anyway. Looking forward to learning from the collective experience here.

There are some very knowledgeable people here. There are some great laughs and silly threads. Some great advice on bargains and codes. Some lefties and some righties. Some weirdos. Doesn't every family have them?

Sounds cool! Are you supporting linux? Cross platform these days includes Windows, MacOS, and Linux. Respond back here, and you should have your 5th post, which should open things up for you. :)

I have not tried to port it over to Linux yet after getting caught up a but in the mac build, but Im open to the challenge if there is enough interest. I built it in JUCE so the midi functionality shouldn't be that big of a push. The video/opencv part is something Im going to have to walk through step by step for sure.

I'm glad you're willing to consider it. :) You've now made your 5th post. You should be able to post links and things now at KVRaudio. :)

Best wishes!

What rules are you finding hard?

This is a busy forum, so a little law and order prevents boards from becoming a promo fest. So some rules are good, just curious which one's you're struggling with.

Is it allowed to do that? I just posted and only then learned about the rule.

If you didn't establish yourself here years ago and got in with the "good old boys club", you will just be subjected to insults, abuse and rampant censorship.

Nah, we’ve all been subjected to it from the beginning. The only “group” of any sort is unofficial. It’s just those of us who have managed to be here 20+ years and still not have been banned. :D

Seriously, there is a sort of culture here that has developed over time. A lot of things that newbies think are rude or sarcastic retorts, are actually fun inside jokes, and are meant for laughs, and not ment to be mean at the person’s expense.

Years and years of inside jokes makes the responses normal for longtime users, but can be off putting to someone new. For example:

If a newbie who hasn’t been here long were to post the question: “I’m a new user. What is the best synth for me?”, a person might see the following responses:

Fish

One Ping Only

This synth

Has everyone mentioned their favorite synth yet?

A tarnce synth

Arrgh! Not this again!!!

The reason, is because this question has come up every few weeks for the last 23-24 years of this platform’s existence. A simple search among threads would give you pages and pages of answers and commentary on this very topic. And all the other comments are just inside jokes from people who have been here long enough to have witnessed or participated in the threads that created the inside jokes.

My recommendation for newbies, is to not immediately suspect people are being jerks when a comment is made that you don’t understand or doesn’t make sense. You can look up the comment and see if you can find it referenced elsewhere in the thread archives. You might even read the history of how the comment came about, and then you can laugh along with everyone else when you see the comment come up.

Some others you might see come up:

It looks like Babya made this.

I don’t even own a tube amp! Haha!

In before the lock!

I brought my popcorn!

There are more—a lot more, but these are some examples. I guess the best advice I can give is to not take comments that you don’t understand as immediately aggressive, rude, or unfriendly. Lurk a lot until you feel comfortable with the culture. Do your homework before you ask a question—search to see if it has already been answered already. And just be friendly. There ARE trolls and aggressive people here that have somehow managed to (just barely) not step over the line. You can “mute” or “ignore” these people so that you don’t have to see their comments. Just add the user’s name to your mute list, and you can then ignore their messages.

Above all, just try to fit in, and you’ll be fine. :)
