When you buy a hardware synth do you actually own all of it?

It was in response to the following post.
That is a personal choice and something I wouldn't necessarily do. Others are free to say as they wish.So its alright to indirectly call 'someone' a lying arsehole, then?
Apologies in advance for the pm but I've said my bit.
Cheers

I've had time to reflect on my conduct since kvr went mia. And do you know what? I am no longer willing to be a punchbag by those playing billy big balls with a 35k+ post quoto. I am entitled to my opinion and beliefs.

Yes, not literally. It was something I was using to make a point in the hope that you at least weren't going to resort to actually making that absurd argument. What you said instead was:Seluvis wrote: Fri Mar 13, 2026 3:56 pm Except at no point did I ever directly claim that cats were dogs. Indirectly yes but not directly.
See you are breaking those self imposed rules to suit a particular narrative like shifting sands.
Here are just a few of the first images I see when searching for "pot" and "plate":
This is a plate:

This is a (cooking) pot:

(also note how it is made of metal, not clay)
This is a (plant) pot:

They are quite clearly not the same things - made of different materials with different uses. It's why we give them different names to distinguish their different characteristics.
Then you completely misrepresented set theory (and liguistics) by equating an attribute (adjective) with an object (noun). Again, two completely distinct things, which is why they are treated as distinct in those two fields.
You are right about the "in much the same way as a pot is a plate part, i.e. "not at all".Seluvis wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2026 4:12 pm [...] in some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate. Just Sayin.
As an aside, you aren't the only person confused about the difference betweren 2 fundamentally different things in this thread. We also had the claim that software (executable code) and data are the same thing. Again, a case of calling a cat a dog and not understanding why we distinguish between the two. The only reason I was calling you out on this and not that poster is that the other one seems to have bowed out of the thread instead of doubling down. It's OK to be wrong and not know everything; if O7O isn't familiar with IT and thinks the two are equivalent, that's not a personal failure on their part, just ignorance caused by a lack of familiarity with the field.
Much like you have completely misunderstood set theory. That's fair enough. The thing to do here is to go and brush up your set theory and understand it, so that the next time you bring it up, you do so in a way that makes sense and actually represents what set theory is, not what it isn't.
In other words, if you think a cat is a dog (a pot is a plate, a noun is an adjective or data is executable), the right thing to do is go and learn about those subjects and what the differences are. Don't get upset with other people when they call you out your ignorance on these matters. Instead, go and educate yourself so you are no longer ignorant - because then you are addressing the root cause of your upset.

I apologised to you when I accidentally misquoted you. I granted you that right when you schooled me on the meaning of words. One post later you misquoted me and broke that level of trust.

It's a shame we can't talk about hardware synths in a music forum without talking about "pots

Art is a human behavior, not a product.
My true belief is that we are approaching all of this incorrectly, and hopefully in the next few 100 years - if we get past our current dark ages nonsense that is - we can move beyond attempting to extract profit from everything and one another, and pretending its a good idea to exploit things like housing and some of our most important evolved behavioral traits. This is all wrong, and Ill always stand behind that.
