winging spoilt brats trashing peoples hard work.
Where is the trash talk in this thread? Where are the insults? All I saw is some opinions not really liking this synth, which is totally fine and ok to say so in a forum, at least as far as I know.

And at the end, it doesn't matter how 'hard' the guy worked. How many hours he spent on it. The result at the end is what really counts. If you hire a lawyer and at the end he loses, you won't be like 'Meh that ok Mr. Lawyer if we lost this case, it's all cool after all you worked sooooo hard on this'.

I see where you’re coming from, but there is a world of difference between a lawyer doing a bad job and a so called bad synth.

Even if I don't like Continua so much that I would buy the VST, Continua is not a bad synth at all... I am happy with the iPad version...
Maybe the ratio between sales for a cheap iPad version to the expensive VST version could be a valuable measure for the quality of a synth? Unfortunately companies rarely (never?) share their sales figures...

I only just found out about this, sort of by accident, but if anyone is interested, it is still available for $79 and if you own Basic, you can upgrade/crossgrade for $59. I bought Basic last year for $20, which still feels expensive for what it is, but I like to use it now and then because the interface is so engaging. I'll definitely be downloading the demo for Continua when I get home.

I find it weird that people are suggesting you'd be better off buying $200 synths instead of spending $80 on this, especially when those synths are Strobe 2 and Cypher 2. I got both with my Seaboard but I never use either. I don't find them appealing at all.

You guys are crazy! Continua sounds great and is fantastic to work with. I downloaded the demo and within half-an-hour had something going with it, so I bought it on the spot. I got stuck in that spot and I still haven't previewed three-quarters of the presets so who knows what gems may still be awaiting discovery You can't put a price on inspiration and this thing seems to have plenty.

For me a synth stands or falls with the qualtiy of it's filters , continua's filters didn't do it for me ( weka resonance etc.) , no mojo
But good for you that you like them
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

Filters matter very little for 90% or more of the sounds I use. It's really only for basslines that I care about the quality of the filter and I have plenty of synths for that. Continua offers something a bit different that I am already finding useful. It was well worth the $60 I paid for it.

I loaded Continua into a project last week, after not having used it for at least a couple of years, and it is way better than I remember. The sound quality on offer is nothing short of superb. The filters are a bit limiting, so it's never going to be anyone's "go-to" synth, but within its range it's pretty hard to beat. The GUI is fabulous, it entices you to explore and play, and there are more than enough features to allow you to sculpt your sound any way you want. If the filters were more versatile, it would be a world-beater, I reckon.

Continua was updated with some additional synthesis methods and tools so I took a look at the demo and indeed this synth sounds good. The Additive module is rudimentary and doesn't appear to allow for easy editing but you can go set some partials into your sounds.

IXA is an interesting synthesis method that produces some interesting sounds. I wonder if the method can be reproduced in some of the full featured FM synths, seems like there's some more territory to explore with this.

The Genetics module is a great implementation of patch variations, worth checking that out alone.

As discussed, the filter modules are rudimentary and will keep some from enjoying this synth. Still, it sounds good as is and if it keeps getting updates maybe they'll get some love.

NEW IN VERSION 1.2

Four New Oscillator Modes
Additive synthesis stacks 64 sine waves with per-harmonic amplitude control. Supersaw layers five detuned sawtooths for the classic dense electronic texture. Supersquare does the same with square waves for a darker, hollow result. IXA combines phase modulation and waveshaping borrowed from an obscure early-90s synthesizer, something between FM and analog that doesn't have a better name than its own.

Arpeggiator
Eighteen patterns ranging from standard ascending/descending runs to Converge, Diverge, Brownian motion, and probabilistic rests via the Chance knob. Fully synced to host tempo, with dotted and triplet values and up to two octaves of range.

Genetics
Open any patch in the Genetics panel and Continua generates a branching tree of mutations. Each node is a subtly different version of your starting sound — click to audition, double-click to make it the new root and go deeper. Toggle which parameter categories can mutate and follow the branches wherever they lead.

Really liking the new Genetics in 1.2. Lets you toggle on/off which elements you want to make variations of, in case you want to keep the AMP envelope for example.
Yo Leroy!

I didn't realise it had new features, I thought they had just added a CLAP version so I didn't bother to look at it after updating. Thanks for the heads-up.

Good old CLAP. Nope. But yeah Audio Damage seems not even to damage the wallet or the ego. Some brilliant stuff.

I finally got around to having a look at the update and it's pretty damned good. SuperSaw is a great addition for me and will ensure Continua gets a lot more use here than it has in a while and the IXA synthesis looks like it might be useful, too. I only wish they'd done some work on the filters to give the sound a bit more oomph for basslines and the like. Still, it has its uses and it sounds extremely good for the price.
