i've been building a small suite of mixing tools under the KERN Audio name (SMOOTH, WARM, WIDE). alongside those i made a free utility called CHECK.

what it does

CHECK shows you where your stereo mix falls apart when summed to mono. not a single correlation number. a spectral curve across 40 ERB frequency bands, updated in real time. you can see exactly which part of the spectrum is out of phase, which part survives, and which part vanishes entirely.

the scoring is bass-weighted (low frequencies count 3x more than highs), because that's where mono collapse actually damages a mix. a score of 60% at 80 Hz means your kick and bass are probably going to fight each other on any system with a single subwoofer.

four controls: SPEED (analysis time constant), FOCUS (frequency range: LOW/FULL/HIGH), BASS (bass weight), ZOOM (display scale). MONO button collapses to mono so you can hear the damage. SIDE button solos the difference signal: everything that disappears in mono, isolated. zero latency. no iLok.

my background is music, not software. i was a touring musician for a long time, had to stop due to illness, and spent three years reading DSP papers and learning C++ from scratch to build the tools i was paying too much for (most of us musicians dont make a lot of money :) ). CHECK is the diagnostic layer i wanted when i was mixing for release and had no way to know if my wide stereo image was going to hold up on streaming.

the KERN architecture uses 40-band ERB filterbanks across all the paid plugins, so the spectral correlation analysis in CHECK is built on the same psychoacoustic model. it's not a standalone curiosity. it's meant to complement the mixing workflow.

CHECK is free - but would love some feedback to make it better.

thank you all!

lots of love!

not sure why that happened, thanks mate - just corrected!

Nice, thank you!
I might be dumb, but I tried to grab the lower right corner of the GUI in order to resize the plugin, and I haven't managed to do so. I haven't found any options/Preferences either : Isn't the GUI resizeable?

Post

I just pushed an update a few days ago, so grab the newest update and its fully resizeable mate - all of the plugins also have a toggle button now! :-)

Thanks for the free plugin. However, it seems a bit weird to state "no account needed. no iLok. just download. ", then asking for an email address when the user clicks download. This is a bit like "we won't charge you but we need your credit card infos anyway". I'm not even saying that asking for an email is an issue, but it's false advertising in my book.

you're right, that's a fair call. the download goes through Lemon Squeezy which asks for an email as part of the checkout, even at $0. "no account needed" means no iLok account, no user login, no activation server: you download, drop it in your plugin folder, done. but the email ask at checkout is a valid friction point and i should be clearer about that on the page. appreciate the honest feedback though.

also edited the post now, if you found that misleading.

Thanks for clearing this up. I honestly didn't know about Lemon Squeezy before so I swiftly checked it on google. That didn't increase my confidence though (1.2 out of 5 stars on tr*stpilot?)

The download being freely available if you know the download-url also doesn't help :?

All that being said, the plugin itself is quite nice. Basically a modern approach to Voxengos Correlometer. It runs very smoothly on my system. The only minor issue is the resizing which seems to default back to tiny whenever the plugin is opened. Still the best correlometer I've tried (which were not that many tbf)

Thank you!
However, it seems the GUI size is not saved/recalled (when I load a new instance of the plugin, it's displayed very small)

thanks for trying it, and fair point about the LS reviews. Lemon Squeezy is a platform for selling digital products (like Gumroad or Shopify). i chose them becaus they handle license keys, checkout, and VAT without me needing a server. the alternative was building my own payment system, which seemed like a poor use of time when i could be building plugins instead - but yeah I can definitely see their reviews are ass - maybe I should’ve built my own and not plugins :hihi:

glad to hear CHECK runs well. the resize defaulting to small on reopen: noted - will save the GUI size to the config file. appreciate the feedback, and "best correlometer i've tried" is a quote i'm keeping.
