Hi
I've been very intrigued by the sounds a guitar can produce when using the FM4 Filter Modeller by Line6. But I don't own one and have been thinking of adding a computer to my live guitar rig, so I wondered if anyone here could suggest some vst alternatives to the pedal?
Best Regards

Yeah that would be great, but I can't imagine it happening in the near future ...jtxx000 wrote:I think that everyone should ask line6 to make vst versions of their stuff...

Why not? It's quite the buzzword of the present.megl wrote:Yeah that would be great, but I can't imagine it happening in the near future ...jtxx000 wrote:I think that everyone should ask line6 to make vst versions of their stuff...
Don't frame it as something you, the consumer, need.
Don't we have some journalists here that can jab them in comparison reviews (no check mark in the VST column!)
That's what marketing people respond to -- check marks in magazine reviews. Sad, but true.

Line6 make plugins for protools so if they were to go the VST route, expect protools prices (both ampfarm and echofarm are around $500).
As far as something equivalent to the filter modeller is concerned, the closest would be ohmforce's quadfromage or psp's nitro. Both offer multiple filter types and many, many more possibilities for modulating those filter types than the simplistic options available in fm4. Although not as explicitly modelled on real world precursors as line6's stuff, I personally prefer the sound I can get out of quad fromage to anything I could get out of fm4. YMMV, of course.

The fact that Line6 is taking over distribution of Propellerheads would lead one to believe that Line6 will move into the s/w market more...

Leave Line6 the hell alone!!!
ok?
Their "Workbench" software for the 'Variax' guitar, is over a YEAR past due.
After you hear that it's finally been released, you're welcome to bug them until they scream.

Yeah - but they know, that a vst would be cracked very fast and used by the people who would normally have to buy guitar port og a POD - people who use ProTools buys the software they use because they are in business - many home users don't. Most hardware companies seem very reluctant to go into the software business for that reason I guess. Yes I know Korg did it, but they don't sell Wavestations etc. anymore.suthnear wrote:Line6 make plugins for protools so if they were to go the VST route, expect protools prices (both ampfarm and echofarm are around $500).
Thanks for the suggestions. What about the plugins - is it equally easy to get something happening or does it require a lot of tweaking?suthnear wrote:As far as something equivalent to the filter modeller is concerned, the closest would be ohmforce's quadfromage or psp's nitro. It requires tweaking, I'm afraid. There is a demo, though, so I suggest you try it. Try psp's nitro as well.
If you want a simpler plug-in, get kjaerhus's auto filter.
