Is that the difficulty? Don't you mean second-hand plugins? You could just buy them directly from the plugin makers, and they would get more money for their efforts.OldMe wrote: Sat Jan 11, 2025 2:39 pm ... i am just an old music man who just wish to be able, sometimes, to buy few new pluggins to (re) discover the pleasure to play music...![]()

Seriously, there is a sort of culture here that has developed over time. A lot of things that newbies think are rude or sarcastic retorts, are actually fun inside jokes, and are meant for laughs, and not ment to be mean at the person’s expense.
Years and years of inside jokes makes the responses normal for longtime users, but can be off putting to someone new. For example:
If a newbie who hasn’t been here long were to post the question: “I’m a new user. What is the best synth for me?”, a person might see the following responses:
Fish
One Ping Only
This synth
Has everyone mentioned their favorite synth yet?
A tarnce synth
Arrgh! Not this again!!!
The reason, is because this question has come up every few weeks for the last 23-24 years of this platform’s existence. A simple search among threads would give you pages and pages of answers and commentary on this very topic. And all the other comments are just inside jokes from people who have been here long enough to have witnessed or participated in the threads that created the inside jokes.
My recommendation for newbies, is to not immediately suspect people are being jerks when a comment is made that you don’t understand or doesn’t make sense. You can look up the comment and see if you can find it referenced elsewhere in the thread archives. You might even read the history of how the comment came about, and then you can laugh along with everyone else when you see the comment come up.
Some others you might see come up:
It looks like Babya made this.
I don’t even own a tube amp! Haha!
In before the lock!
I brought my popcorn!
There are more—a lot more, but these are some examples. I guess the best advice I can give is to not take comments that you don’t understand as immediately aggressive, rude, or unfriendly. Lurk a lot until you feel comfortable with the culture. Do your homework before you ask a question—search to see if it has already been answered already. And just be friendly. There ARE trolls and aggressive people here that have somehow managed to (just barely) not step over the line. You can “mute” or “ignore” these people so that you don’t have to see their comments. Just add the user’s name to your mute list, and you can then ignore their messages.
Above all, just try to fit in, and you’ll be fine.![]()

May I ask if that is based on your own experience, or observations of other interactions where you might not have been aware of the history of the participants?heliacal wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2026 5:47 pm If you didn't establish yourself here years ago and got in with the "good old boys club", you will just be subjected to insults, abuse and rampant censorship.
Could you give us specific examples? There are a few characters here about whom some might agree -- but KVR would not be the same without them.
I had a look through your posts and didn't see anything that immediately jumped out to indicate that you had been involved in an inter-member fracas, but I did note your mention of the Urantia Book. I remember that when I worked at Haslam's Book Store in St. Pete (FL) about four decades ago that was maybe not a bestseller but still an item of frequent interest in the Religion and Spirituality room.
Speaking as someone who wanted to be a writer and who has some degree of bibliomania (but who contrarily doesn't read much), these days it seems to me astonishing that someone would take the time to consider (or channel) and write all of that (The Urantia Book), especially decades before AI-generated or -assisted prose, and that the first edition was published about a decade or so before electronic typesetting started to become available.

I've been banned numerous times for not towing the liberal party line. Same thing happens at VI Control. And I'm not some hard core MAGA type, more in the middle. I've NEVER voted in my Life and I'm 65. If you don't direct quote The Guardian and fall completely in line with it's conclusions/propaganda, which I do not, you're out, or your posts are deleted etc. The old timers have a secure power here and can say anything, insult you over and over with impunity. It's best to keep your mouth shut if you don't follow the herd/cattle which I am horrible at...havran wrote: Sun Mar 22, 2026 12:51 amMay I ask if that is based on your own experience, or observations of other interactions where you might not have been aware of the history of the participants?heliacal wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2026 5:47 pm If you didn't establish yourself here years ago and got in with the "good old boys club", you will just be subjected to insults, abuse and rampant censorship.

Not sure who you're referring to. Without getting too deep into it, it was a moderator who took something I said in a completely wrong way. It was such a bizarre take on what I said, that the only thing I can think of is that he was forcing himself to find an excuse to screw with me. Even though I apologized and explained in detail what I meant, he continued to harass me and banned me from HPC.havran wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2026 11:23 pmAnything to do with a self-important furry grognard from the modem era?zerocrossing wrote: Tue Dec 30, 2025 3:53 pm Things here are a lot better now, since the issue got removed.

What's funny about this is, almost every single time I've read this type of thing, you can find with a bit of digging that the person is totally MAGA, but in denial. "I don't agree with Trump, but he's best for the economy!" Meanwhile, under Donald Trump's tariffs, U.S. farm bankruptcies surged by 46% in 2025. I've also heard, "I don't want men in girls sports!" Yet, here we are with credible evidence that our current commander in chief, and his pals, have repeatedly raped children and are desperately trying to censor the records.heliacal wrote: Sun Mar 22, 2026 3:55 amI've been banned numerous times for not towing the liberal party line. I see this over and over again. People who claim to be centrist or fiscally conservative as an excuse to vote Republican, yet if you look at recent history, Republicans are horrible for the economy and the deficit. This is irrefutable fact. Donald Trump is responsible for around 30% of our current deficit. Deporting our best unskilled workers is suicide. Tariffs are a terrible way to create jobs. Forever wars do not make us safer, including the recent one, and if you think we have a say in when this ends, you're high.
I apologize if this isn't you, but this has been my direct experience.

That VI-Control political section (was somewhat hidden) was something else--a few more extreme Nick Fuentes types on there--and some counter perspectives. Their underbelly was worse than Hyde Park. They do seem stricter with what can be posted on the main forum threads (especially threads started by developers--don't bring anything negative there; but there are often parallel threads started by members where you can speak truth to a product).
There are a number of users there who go overboard in trying not to offend when writing something contradictory--we have Bones, Techsonik (sp?), jancivil and the like who could not be tolerated to speak so freely at VI-Control if they cared to. Once in a while, someone still does get bent out of shape there, like:

The same exchange here would go like this:VI 1: "I don't mean to come of as a pedant, but I feel compelled to point out that you should have written Eb."
VI 2: "What? Do you mean to imply that I don't know Eb is the same thing as D#? Excuse me, I thought we were all adults here."
VI 1: "My dear fellow, I did not intend to tarnish your character. I merely meant it for the edification of--not you--but some of those novice musicians who pop up now and then; they should know how to properly notate in the key of G minor. 'No crack in a fortress may be accounted small,' so to speak, as it were."
VI 2: "Poppycock. Your tone was crystal clear. Dare I say KVR is leaking in."
But plenty of KVR members participate on VI-Control.Bones: "You f@!king wanker. You don't know what you are talking about, you halfwit. Go away."
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Sun/Light and it's creation Nature is "god/reality" axiomatic truth.
Politics are a distraction like spectator sports.
Divide the masses and conquer.
BOTH sides are corrupt, a facade in all directions.

I've only seen MaschinesWorking who works with 5+ DAWS yet I'm sure he's NOT doing music for a living. That is my experience, that there are tons of VERY opinionated, vocal, denigrating amateurs who are more enamored with system building and figuring out the engineering side of modern music production VS making their primary living from said music pursuit i.e. posers. Dominating others on forums about technical trivia are their claim to fame...
In The War of Art, Steven Pressfield defines the amateur as someone who lets Resistance (fear, self-doubt, procrastination) dictate their actions, often working only when inspired and taking failure personally. Amateurs over-identify with their work, leading to paralysis, while professionals show up daily, focus on process over outcome, and work despite fear.
