I played the patches side by side from both synths (along with yhe CS-80 V and The Eighty) and found the GX-80 the most inspirational because of its creamier nature, personslly.
Interesting because I demoed GX-80 when it came out and didn't think much of the sound at all. OTOH, when I demoed Model 77 I just had to have that sound in my arsenal, even though I didn't think I'd ever find a use for it in our music (and I haven't yet).

Absolutely it sounds amazing but lately there are other synths that are right up there with it but are much easier to work with. I use DUNE quite a bit but it's always patches I made in v1 and even a couple from the early alphas when it was called Antidote (which I still have installed).

Adding the browser has definitely helped with usability and I reckon DUNE has just about the best patch management going now. U-He's is probably slightly ahead but not by much. But while it still has that stupid centre screen, the workflow will be compromised. HIVE was the same for me until I discovered a skin that did away with the centre screen and laid everything out where it was much easier to get at. Now I use HIVE quite regularly.

Proxima has become my go-to of late. Over the last two or three years I've been using the shit out of it. It's on most of the tracks on our current album and will be on every single song on our new one.
Any layer in every one of the hundreds and hundreds of patches I've ever made for D3 does something so turning it off will absolutely make a big difference in the overall sound.
Sadly, you weren't the only one making patches for the factory bank and the laziness and lack of attention to detail I see in so many of DUNE's factory patches can make them very hard to work with.
I wish CA would do these teasers only a couple of days before release and not ten days before because the speculation gets stale and then minds begin to wander......
10 days is long enough for me to forget all about it, which doesn't work to their advantage. It was only through this thread that I remembered SH-Max and grabbed the demo. I need to play around with it a bit more but it might be a keeper.

Elka-X is much simpler to use than SH-MAX and sounds better than or on par with Atomika. I would check that one out too (MAX has a lot going on in the GUI).

Atomika is pretty special for the stuff we do but I don't think I could ever say it actually sounds "good". I haven't tried the Elka, I'll give it a go.

It's not my favorite, but I think the description of Cherry, along with the musical style (era) and the sound, fits best with the ESQ-1 so far.

A while back there was some push-back against any thread that tried to play cluedo with "Guess the Synth" that tried to inject a payload.
Some people like mystery and suspense, tension and release and Cherry Audio do it in a respectful manner.
After posting I think I mislabelled. "Guess the Sound".?

Cheetah MS6

Post

That would be awesome.

Post

The Oberheim Matrix 1000 was better than the MS6 (it was a Matrix 6/6R derivative). Better brand recognition too with the Oberheims - Cheetah was always the offshoot of the ZX Spectrum era of cheap computing and manufacture.

But then, if you're doing an M1000, might as well do a M6, as per my earlier guess. I reckon it's either the JX-8P, or the Matrix 6, with the former being the most likely imo...

I was worried it might have been the JX-8P only because it did not sound like one to me, which made me think the emulation was poor. However, Cherry Audio said (in the Youtube comments) it was neither a Korg nor a Roland. Thank goodness.

Nah, they said nobody guessed right after countless suggestions of Roland JX and Korg DW and a gazillion of other hybrid analog/digital stuff.

But they went into hiding after somebody brought up Crumar BIT series. BIT ONE, BIT-99.

Interesting. Another amalgamation a la SH-Max mayhap? Assuming it is the BIT series.
