Hello! I have a question: how long have all of you been composing ?
Of course, long-time regulars as well as first-time participants are creating such wonderful works, so I'm very curious. I know it's not just about the amount of time spent, but I'm really interested !
Also, I’m sorry for asking so many questions, but if anyone has a favorite composer or a "must-listen" piece, I would be so grateful if you could share it !
Sorry to bother you while you're busy!

Well, my first OSC entry was December 2013 for Linplug's Spectral synth, before that I played around with synths in trackers and even before I played around composing stuff with a simple MIDI sequencer.T-Brdg wrote: Thu Mar 26, 2026 1:06 pm Hello! But the OSC was really what made me improve and grow a lot, having a deadline helps, certain limitations too, and best of all having a community that gives feedback and which you can interchange ideas, also it gave me a reason to post my stuff online
I read your question as someone that is willing to improve their skills, and I belive this place is perfect for that.

I really enjoyed Flechtwerk. The unusual architecture with so many sound engines and very few controls all of which could make dramatic differences was a lot of fun, and inspired a lot of time on sound design.

30+ years. OSC for last ten. It's a lot of fun, really nice group of people and you'll get feedback and advice from some very accomplished producers.T-Brdg wrote: Thu Mar 26, 2026 1:06 pm Hello! I have a question: how long have all of you been composing ?

Been composing and producing music since the mid-1960's ... a long time. OSC is a perfect platform to help you focus on all elements of music production. Many very helpful and competent here who will be able to guide you through your musical development. I can't thank them enough (you know who you are!). The "one synth" model, whilst restrictive, does help focus on the various phases of making music. The one month timescale also helps focus on "getting the job done". Stops you having many unfinished pieces of music lying around!T-Brdg wrote: Thu Mar 26, 2026 1:06 pmHello! I have a question: how long have all of you been composing ?

Would you be able to make your track public so I can add it to the preliminary playlist? If not, that's fine!Aiynzahev wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 2:31 am

Cheers friends - found some time this month to check out Flechtwerk (what I wanted to do anyway for a long time). Pretty nice sound engines but also frustrating to work with sometimes. Anyhow, looking forward to your entries

Not a track submission ... just an update on my phu vst3 collection.
I now have added a Beat Synced Multi In Scope, see https://github.com/huberp/phu-beat-sync-multi-scope. I'm working on this plugin and some more stuff so that's why I have no time to listen to tracks or do new music myself right now. It collects samples of all instances that are set to "broadcast". You can see Bdr, Clap,HiHat in the screenshot. It does not need sidechains or whatsoever to collect stuff ... it does this by tcp/ip broadcasting ... no, it's all done in the UI thread, so no worries, no weird stuff happens on the audio thread. If you followed my posts this vst3 version is a direct descandant of work I did in protoplug/lua a while ago...
On top of showing the samples of all sending instances, it computes rms of the sum in 1/16 intervalls. this is the horizontal lines.
Additionally I'm working on a "cancelation" sensor which is the line at the bottom. it get's red when the plugin detects cancelation happening with the incoming samples. It already works to some extent, but with some weird detections as you migh spot.
I have a few plans for the futur after finishing the cancelation detector, i.e. computing a "ducking curve" and sending them to the other instanes again via broadcasting.
As soon as I have a release will publish it here ...

ontrackp, doctorbob, J.Ruegg, I am truly grateful for your response !!
It makes sense that your current works are the result of consistent composing
and a strong desire to improve.
I have only just started composing, and I was feeling deeply discouraged by how poor my own creations seemed.
Reading your reply, has been incredibly encouraging.
Thank you so much. I look forward to continuing to learn from all of you!
