All the work for a killer Eurorack modular experience has been done by the VCV crew. The browsing is pretty damn good, the navigation is great, polyphony is dream in VCV, cables look good and have lots of options...Softube Modular, at present, competes on sound quality but nothing else. A Softube+VCV hybrid would be killer.

That’s a great idea.

Yup- Give in all other Modular 'rack' makers and just make Modules for VCV...all the work is done. I would buy more softube stuff if it ran in VCV, I don't like their rack implementation at all.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

We could run softube modular as an effect or instrument using VCV Host and get at it that way. Not elegant but workable.

Do the Model synths come with presets for Modular using their modules? For example if I want to use Model 80 oscillator and filter modules with 5 voice polyphony would I have to load 5 instances of each and patch it all manually? I didn't find any "copy" or "duplicate" commands in a search of the manual, so does that mean I can't just do the patching for one voice and then duplicate that 5 times to set up 5 voice?

Then factor in that I want to play it using MPE controllers, with polyphonic pressure and Y axis, and having to set it all up manually seems like a tremendous timesuck... IDK, maybe it would be okay for a few very simple James Blake style Prophet patches.

Absolutely!! This would be by far the best option. There's no way Softube could match the VCV user interface and usability. They aren't that great at building interfaces (just look at the clumsy preset browsers and what not) and Modular is a complete mess in terms of usability.

Yes, that's exactly how cumbersome it would be. There are no "polyphonic" cables at all in Modular, so you need to hook up absolutely everything by hand.. and no intelligent copy/paste either. In terms of user interface, it's abysmal. It's literally like a real modular system except instead of hands you have a mouse. That's it.

I couldn't locate any free bank either, actually I only fond one tiny payware bank that's too expensive what it offers.

When you own their other synths, there are more presets available using their modules in Modular.

Yes to this. The real value of Modular is in using the bits 'n bobs from their other products in a modular environment, with typical Softube high sound-quality.
A well-behaved signature.

If you're hesitant to "reinvent the wheel" modular synthesis probably isn't for you.

Maybe take a look at AAS Multiphonics-cv-3: https://www.applied-acoustics.com/multiphonics-cv-3/
It's got polyphony (just press a button), MPE, physical modelling, FM, rez oscillator, and a lot more.

It was talked down when it first came out, but a lot has been added with 2 updates.
https://www.applied-acoustics.com/multi ... 3/modules/
Still a closed system, but it'll take quite a while to explore with what's provided.

And if you don't like the sound of masturbating robots, modular synthesis definitely isn't for you! :help:

I didn't really enjoy my experience with Softube modular. Sounds good. Bad interface. Also some of the regular modules were buggy and made patches behave unpredictably. I'd just stick with reaktor blocks since you have it. There are good 3rd party modules to add additional functionality.
