I have seen a few versions of this but I just wanted to post my incarnation. Just some 2mm ABS fret markers drilled and super glued into the wood. Then some hand rubbed spar varnish to finish it off.

Nice job, well done, seems like a great help to guitar/bass folks.
Another option for fretless players would put the markers on the fret lines (spaces).

That's a really cool idea. I have my lights set up as fret markers, but having them on the side is a nice touch.
