I used to own a Juno 106. Yes, the chorus is BBD and is noisy by design. But if it is as loud as this one, clearly audible even when no note being played, then it means your device needs service and you need to get the MN3009 chip replaced.

The noise isn't modeled in a correct way either. On real hardware you'd hear the amount of noise reduced when you lower your VCA level but the noise level stays the same on Model 84. So Softube isn't really introducing the noise because it's the same behavior on hardware. They are essentially trying to cheat on the "vintage feeling" by putting in some noise and call it a day.

I don't mind the noise when played. But audible noise when idle needs to be dealt with.
I might be reading the schematic incorrectly but it seems like the MN3009's are after the VCA:

If my memory still serves then you are right that they are after the VCA. And that's also the reason you get less chorus noise. Once you lower the VCA level you'd expect to have less input into the chorus and thus less noise. It works in a way which differs from the master volume knob.

I am talking about this based on my memory though. I sold my Juno years ago and my memory might be wrong. Need to grab another hardware to test it again...

100% this. It is a bit ridiculous with the chorus noise. Now i am not good with vsti or synths, but anyway i use Klevgrand "brusfri" to get the chorus noise to disappear. Not good this :clown: And it might have other effects on the vsti.

Use the Model 84 chorus FX. The noise will be gone

Post

Nope. The FX is noisy as hell as well.

Post

Not noisy here
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Edit: The KVR link 404s but the package appears to be in their giant (2 GB) free product rollup package for a bunch of synths which requires a checkout and then following a textfile link to a Google Drive link that is downloading.

you can read that's great, seeking other free banks if anyone knows please

I don't have noise at all with the fx vst
Obviously you must disable the one on the synth :D

Post

Obviously I don't use it on a synth track.
I have used it on acoustic guitars for example . I had to gate those tracks every time.
But I use an alternative now anyways so it doesn't bother me anymore.

The chorus plugin's output meter shows signal (probably noise) but my DAW's channel meter shows nothing. Not sure what's going on there.

How does it, sound wise, compare to Jun-6 V by Arturia?

Post

Jun-6 V is a Juno-60, which is very different from the Juno-106 that Model 84 is based on.

This... he has done some of my favourite banks for J8, U No LX, Diva, model 84... I would happily buy his presets if he decides to do more and sell them.
