I'm one of those people obsessed with logos and icons and stuff like that. Unfortunately, the original SoundFont logo, being ancient, isn't available anywhere online, save for a few scans of SoundFont CDs in the internet archive. Thus, I took it upon myself to make some quick recreations. The black & white is the newest iteration, and the coloured version is my take on the original, found in the SoundFont spec sheet (in potato quality).
They're not perfect (I changed the font for another serif font), but they're higher fidelity than anything you'll find currently online. The vectors are in the zip file, if anyone wants to mess with them themselves, or export in any size they wish.

I'm not completely sold on the font but I think the logos and overall layout in both of your mock-ups are great. 
I think, if the text was moved to the left some so that the "S" and the "df" were more aligned with the negative spaces under the logo (if that makes sense, it might work better. Just a thought. Either way I really like them!
