When you go to the website you can download the plugins for either Mac or Windows which you can use in your D.A.W. of choice, but here's the part that some people may not like, you have to enter your e-mail which will set up your account but you could always use a throw-away account if that bothers you and of course as you'll see in the website video you can use this in your browser.
The only thing is if you've uploading audio it can only be two minutes in length. You do have to put in the B.P.M. and for that there's a free B.P.M. finder that I use online right here: https://vocalremover.org/key-bpm-finder
I haven't tried the live recording function yet but I'm guessing the time limit may be the same. I also haven't tried the D.A.W. plugin yet but I'll probably be doing that later this week. Now here's the thing that I found interesting, once you've got the song sounding how you want, you can export it in either audio format or MIDI format. This means if you want to get even more control you can export the MIDI files, open them up in your D.A.W. and then edit them to your hearts content, and of course you can add your favourite instrument and effects plugins. Now I'd just like to add to what I've just said, this new BandM8 app/website reminded me of a program that Microsoft made freely available back in 2009 called "Songsmith". I don't know if anybody here remembers it but it sparked a lot of videos on YouTube where they'd use acapellas of various artists matched up with styles that the original artists never even considered. (To put it mildly).
I remember seeing Metallicas "Enter Sandman" with a synth heavy backing that was similar to Soft Cells "Tainted Love" and there was an Ozzy Osbourne song with a country backing. But the thing about this software, even though it wasn't designed for what people used it for in the videos, was it was actually a pretty decent program for what it was designed for. The only thing is, some of the genres were kind of cheesy sounding but just as with BandM8, you could export the backing as a MIDI file then import that into your D.A.W. and edit it if you want to. Suprisingly enough this is still available on Microsofts website to freely download. There is a 6 hour limitation but you can divide those 6 hours anyway you like, 2 minutes here, 10 minutes there, etc. How it works is you set a beat and tempo with the genre of your choice, sing something into a microphone and it gives you instrumental accompaniment. It'll follow what you sing and apply the chord changes. BTW, this is actually a pretty deep program when you get into the chord editor. Say for example you wanted a chord to sound less major or minor sounding and you wanted it to sound a little different, you can change it to say an augmented or suspended chord or whatever sounds like what you're going for. If this were to be released today I'm sure Microsoft would put it under the "AI" umbrella. If you want to check it out, here's the link:
