Yeah as far as software modulars go, Softube Modular is not the most fun. However it sounds great and it's still cool for making simple mono patches, especially if you want to make variants of other softube synths, like a Minimoog which doesn't lose all it's low end with high resonance (e.g. using the Korgasmatron MS-20 style filter) , or adding an amp envelope to a 101 (and another osc or fm or whatever). Things like that where the originals fall short.

I feel it's worth keeping in mind that there are plenty of far less versatile, self-contained synths that are far above the mere $40 price point Modular has on sale. Given its nature it makes some sense that people will compare it to the more widely-supported VCV Rack or Reaktor, but looking at it as an instrument rather than an entire platform for instruments, I think it's very good, despite the less than stellar UI.

ALEX BALL shows in his MODEL84 yt review what it can become in MODULAR and I'm not impressed, reinventing the wheel can/is a major hit & miss. A fatter JUNO 106 is not what I'm in the market for and hardly synth engineer knows better than ROLAND's IMO.

Try the demo with preset Four Voice. It makes great use of the Model 84 modules.
