Worse when you have to randomly check on his website and check each product you own license for, to see if they have an update for them.

There's no real reason to do this unless there is something you really want/need.

Maybe you have different 'strain' of OCD :).
But yeah I feel compelled to check (not only for TAL) for updates...but of course rarely in the midst of a project unless there is a bug I need fixed that is causing issues in that project and the developer has updated with a bug fix.

No, we don’t. Move along, then.

Late to the party as usual, I only just discovered this new TAL. I guess I'll have to demo it properly, but after listening to the TAL demos...dunno if it'll float my boat and it quite surprised me. I had a JX3p and remember it fondly for all the usual Roland stuff of that time, particularly the lovely sync and nice rubbery filter and warmth (obvs a lot more limited though). I never had a JX8 but I always assumed it was just a pimped up JX3 - seems I was quite wrong. Those demos very much remind me of the Alpha Juno sonic character rather than the JX3. Used them for years, still have one tucked away in a cupboard somewhere. Not sure I'd want both an Alpha and a JX8 when they both seem to do very similar sound. JX8p initially seems to have that mid-late 80s analogue sound that was trying to sound more digital in order to compete with the new-fangled digital take-over that was happening.

I'll try it though - could be the demos miss out on interesting stuff it can do. It makes me feel vindicated for never bothering to buy a JX8p back in the day. I don't think I missed out on anything. Sounds like great work from TAL as usual, despite sounding like a vanilla synth.

This should have been the default lol

I assume you mean the demo songs (of which I did one).. remember your taste may not be our taste. So definitely try it for yourself.
The Article I had linked, said it was designed to be a successor to the JX-3P, but it was also trying to compete with the dx-7 at the time (like everything was)..
I use to play a jx-3p in a band in the late 80s but that was so long ago, I can't really remember how close this is to it..
but indeed try it.
(btw,I didn't like the alpha hardware and tbh not really a fan of pha either, but this one I love).

No!!! :).
But since he has graciously provided it, it can be your default.

The current default to me is the most beautiful default skin on any of Tal's synths.

I wouldn't exactly call myself a convert. It's just that having been buying synths since 1977, I've been too inundated with all the "best synth ever" hoopla that you become numb to it after a while. I can count the number of synths in these almost 50 years that have truly blown me away on one hand. The Roland synths in general were not on the top of the list.

Here's the one hand list.

Oberheim Matrix 6
Korg Wavestation
Moog Polymoog (thank you Gary Numan)
ARP Omni 2
Korg Triton

You'll notice there are no "modern" vsts on this list. Right now, the only emulation I'm missing is the Matrix 6. Sadly, I doubt anyone is ever going to make a vst version.Everybody wants OB's and that's where the money is.

That’s a great one, and a total departure from the Minimoog design. It uses a divide down oscillator, like the Solina. I assume you have the XILS PolyM model of it?

I like TAL, but hate having to constantly update my plugins.
Yuck. Download managers suck. You don't have to constantly download. Just download when there is something in the new version that you really want/need. Otherwise, you don't have to worry about it.
I like download managers. Means I don't have to check anything to see if there are updates. They just show up.

It quite literally was just released today 😆

Please be ethical and reveal if you are being paid by TAL to post this much, because I went to another forum to read about the plugin instead of what this thread has become, and it is THE SAME PEOPLE posting about the same synth on different forums.
REAPER + Davinci Resolve Pro on Manjaro KDE. Neve 88m. Focusrite 18i20 2nd gen. Neumann NDH30 headphones. Mics: Telefunken TF39, AT4050, Miktek C7e, EV RE-15. VSTs: u-he Hive 2, F'em, Renoise Redux, Apisonic Speedrum 2.

Are you speaking about me?
I am not being paid by Tal.
But I am a beta tester for this and many of his products and of course I get the product free when I beta test..
But long before I became a beta tester (I started with J-8, which I think was my idea :-), I owned all his paid plugins and loved his work.)

I think it is evident from reading what I have been writing, that I have had access to the plugin before today.
I even wrote a demo track for it last Friday...
I posted on this, vi-control and gearspace, because 1) I love his work and this synth and definitely want it to do well, and 2) he wouldn't, he tends to stay off forums.
Assuming you are speaking about me of course.

It's almost like synth enthusiasts want to talk to other synth enthusiasts in places where synth enthusiasts hang out...

Damn. Someone should make a forum for that. Or ten.
