Dear All.
Disabled wannabe composer who sucks at programming VSTs here! I love what I've heard of Surge XT in pieces, love the price-tag(!) but my ancient DAW is 32-bit VST2 friendly only. It can do JBRIDGE so if there's a 64-bit VST2 going I could JBRIDGE it, no?
That's one question. The next one - final question - does Surge have MIDI-Learn or can it receive commands via CC, like CC7 for volume control? I ask because I've got a little collection of things that make wonderful noises but you can't automate them because they don't accept CC7 or have MIDI-Learn. Didn't want to discover the hard way Surge has that problem too. Quick Score Elite, my DAW, does EVERYTHING with CC commands. Finally - if there IS a 32-bit VST2 version lying around - can I get pad sound presets for it anywhere? That's what I loved most about it in the tracks I heard - its Gaw-juss pad sounds!

Tracked down a 32 bit installer that apparently installs a VST2 version:

Installed it and appears to work in Reaper, this is definitely not the newer version of Surge-XT I have installed so I'm pretty sure it is the 32bit VST 2 that I installed. There may be other releases in this repo that have newer versions, this is just the one I tried.
This comes with a number of Pad presets so you should have some good starting points to make some good music.
There are some MIDI learn options on the controllers available with a right-click. I tried MIDI learn on my mod-wheel on the Master Volume control and it worked so I'm thinking you'll have some success.

You can build from source code if you wanted (the procedure is explained pretty well in the readme on Github), this would bring you up to the latest version. 1.6.0 is ancient and is missing an awful lot of good stuff.
That said, the caveat is you cannot get the VST2 SDK legally anymore. But you could build a 32-bit VST3 then see how you could wrap that into a VST2 somehow (maybe something like BlueCat Audio Patchwork can do it?)...
