Charvel is Fender.

At Los Angeles guitar shows, 90% of the guitars you’ll see people walking around with are Squier’s and PRS SE’s.

So is Jackson, and they are better guitars than fender, IMO.

I just can't get into the wavy abalone inlays, why?

Personally unfortunately the best looking guitar to me is a black Custom Les Paul with gold hardware. I owned a used one a 74 or so in the 80's, got stolen in 1990. Shudder to think what that $350 used in 87 guitar is worth today.

Post

About $3K. High but not as high as it should be. Great guitar, for sure. The best Les Paul I owned was a 1968 Deluxe, it was stripped and would be worth even less than that today, but I still wish I hadn't sold it.

I had a jackson JS34Q (Indonesia Dinky) Thing fell apart on me. It was crap from the word go with the cheap FR inspired trem.

USA jacksons and Charvels are fine. MIM's are only soso.

You aren't going to see Sire's at guitar shows unless it's NAMM

I too had a great Gibson LP custom and Standard as well as an okay standard. The thing is that back then you'd have to go through ten of them to find the right one. Clapton had that experience and even went through other ppl's 335's SG's and even an explorer.

Eh, I like and use Gibson's preferring the LP neck scale most times, since that's what I'm used to. I would have to carefully inspect any new Gibson's before buying though, much like just about any other guitar maker, save a select few like Suhr.

I wouldn't mind getting an explorer, that's about it though, in as much as actually wanting a new Gibson.

Sorry, I mean at the guitar shows where people bring their own guitars to try out amps and pedals. 90% of the people carrying their own guitars are carrying Squire or PRS SE.

I haven't been to one of those in decades.

Yeah, not a fan too. Not a fan of the "Ltd" font either. Everything else is good enough for the price, IMO.

I still have my Jackson Soloist Custom from the 90`s, which originally came with gold hardware. Unfortunately that gold got old pretty fast :hihi: , so I've changed to black, to match an EMG 81 I put in it at the time.

Uncle E wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2026 10:41 pm Jaguar is 24". Imagine the jump from Fender to Gibson, it's the same jump from Gibson to Jaguar.
Would you have an idea why they did such a different cat in Jaguar?
- more controls than the others, but why scale length?
If you compare a Jaguar to a Telecaster there is a lot more body below the bridge to accommodate a gentle arch down to the tailpiece/tremolo system. So the overall length of the instrument actually feels pretty similar and balances nicely - but the bridge has moved up!

Tremendous values. The old Korean ones were excellent. If you can find the EverTune model, it usually sells for less than the cost of the hardware on it (EMG-loaded, too).

I’ve been to the ESP factory/custom shop in Shibuya. It’s incredible. True artists.

Yep. Totally agree.

I owned a Kirk Hammet Signature like this one:

Actually all guitars I had, I bought in Japan. Including my Jackson Soloist Custom that I love so much (RIP Jeff Hanneman). I worked there for 10 years (91 to 99, then 2005 to 2007).

Ochanomizu for guitars, Akihabara for synths. :)

While I like the way some Gibson's look, I'd rather buy a "Gibson" like, but different from another brand like Suhr, ESP/LTD, PRS, you name it. I've found more things I like from other brands, with as good or better specs at a better price.
