I wanted the straightforward power of a subtractive synth, but shaped by a convolution engine instead of just stacking effects on top. Each note generates its own impulse response, so the resonance becomes part of the instrument.
STRÄNG. 150+ presets, $29, free trial.

I can take it. What do you think?

I think this all looks odd tbh - the Windows download includes the Mac version despite there being a separate Mac download and there are four VST3s in the Windows zip file (buried several layers in), including one that is zero bytes in size. ? Frankly I'm leery of even trying these.

Mac version works great. Lovely interface and sounds. I love the preset scrolling, particularly up and down to change types. However, as nice as the interface looks, it's not easy to use, and everything I'm getting from it sounds pretty same-ish.

Hey, thanks for trying it! I'm not a PC native so bare with me, the Windows download has been updated with a clean zip.
Should have been clearer: the download includes 3 bonus plugins alongside STRÄNG, which is the main one. The Mac version is larger because it includes AU, VST3 and AAX in a universal binary. Let me know if it works!

You were right, the zip was a mess. It's been cleaned up, just the VST3 files now.mixyguy2 wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 2:19 am I think this all looks odd tbh - the Windows download includes the Mac version despite there being a separate Mac download and there are four VST3s in the Windows zip file (buried several layers in), including one that is zero bytes in size. ? Should also mention the download includes STRÄNG plus 3 bonus plugins (Corridor, Below, Open Upp). Sorry about the confusion, appreciate you flagging it.

Thanks Eric, really appreciate you giving it a go! Glad you like the interface and sounds. The key to getting more variation is the Material knob combined with Body amount, try sweeping Material slowly with Body cranked up, that's where the big character shifts happen. The Decay and Grain knobs also open up a lot when Body is high. I know the UI doesn't make that obvious enough, definitely something I'm working on. And "Lovely Interface and Sounds" gave me plenty inspiration to do that.Uncle E wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 5:53 am Mac version works great. Lovely interface and sounds. Curious, when you say same-ish, was that browsing the presets or when you were tweaking it yourself?

Both presets and tweaking sounds same-ish. It's a good sound so I'll probably still buy it, I just wish I could get my head around it a bit more. Tack for the programming tip, I can definitely hear the Material more when doing that.quantasticalsound wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 11:58 am Thanks Eric, really appreciate you giving it a go! Issue should be sorted now, Had to sacrifice some of the shadows in the GUI, but it works. Here's the updated link if you want to try again: https://quantastical.gumroad.com/l/qxfekwquantasticalsound wrote: Fri Apr 03, 2026 9:15 amOh no! Im diving in straight away looking for the cause. I'm using the trial version.
The trial version was still on the old version, I forgot to save my changes on gumroad..sorry!!
double check and if your download was 1.3.0 it was still the old. Heres 1.3.3 that should work:
