There is no way to remove duplicates anyway. If I have Reaper, for instance, and I have VST2 and VST3 versions of the same plugin installed, provided they are the same version, I should be able to offload the VST2 versions.

I didn't have any issues removing the VST2 for my Korg plugins (they all still work)
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Hi, thanks for the detailed feedback.

We are really surprised to hear about the UAD and brand detection issues as these are working well and have had great feedback from many users. Feel free to email me with any additional information and we will work with you to solve your particular use case as Plugins like Soundtoys get the correct manufacturer detection every time from user feedback.

Only issue can be putting the plugin in the right category as many manufactures don’t include that in the meta data. To get around that we are adding customisable categories in the near future.

Custom plugin folders is something we're actively working on for an upcoming release. That might help in your setup too.

Regarding VST3 wrapper dependencies, that's good feedback and something we'll look into.

Regards,
Oliver
Steinberg/vstplugins is not a custom plugin folder, it's the main VST2 folder for everyone who has any Steinberg products, and it was the default install path for VST2 for ages. Not including that path in your software seems rather amateuristic to be honest.

Categories are always in the Metadata for any VST3 plugin. I see the correct categories for pretty much all of my plugns in all of my hosts (even in chainers and in Audiogridder) so it's very weird how you state that many manufacturers don't include it.
Hi, thanks for following up.

You are right about the Steinberg VST2 path, that is a gap in our default scan locations and we will add it. The custom plugin folders feature is coming too, but having the Steinberg path included by default makes sense.

On categories, that is fair feedback and we should have been doing from the start. We opted for keyword detection to over other plugin formats but we will implement the category detection in VST3 and if it exists use that first.

We have a new release out within a week with quite a few new features and will aim to get these in that release too.

Appreciate the straight up feedback, it helps us improve the software.

Regards,
Oliver

Can I set additional VST folders? Because I have them off separate from my boot drive.
Hi ! Great tool ! Waiting for the new version with "change VST directories" available ...Thanks.

It would probably be a good idea to have the formats be offloaded to separate folders, in case users need to put the files back after.

I was looking at this and thinking about my 36 GB vst 3 folder. Nice idea, but having to wait 20 mins to move the stuff likely would outweigh any benefits. Heh.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the suggestion.

Plugoff actually handles the restore process for you. When you offload a plugin, the original location is saved so when you restore it, the plugin goes back to exactly where it came from. This works across all formats so you don't need to manually sort anything.

If you have any other queries or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Hi,

The offload process is actually pretty quick. If you're using the default offload folder on the same drive, files are moved instantly regardless of size. If you're offloading to an external drive, the files are copied across then removed from the original location, so that would take a bit longer depending on the drive speed, but certainly not 20 minutes.

If you have any other queries or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Hi,

Plugoff can do exactly that. You can filter by format using the format buttons in the sidebar (VST, VST3, AU, AAX), then select all and offload just the formats you don't need. So if you want to keep your VST3 versions and offload all VST2, just filter to VST, select all, and offload.

If you have any other queries or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Oh, that's awesome! I was restoring manually.

Interesting, I’ll give it a try, just basing that on moving them around myself on occasion. Win takes a good 20 mins, even when using opus.

Mostly that’s across drives though (due to limited space)

Acustica plugins leave a bunch of files behind. Not your fault but you might want to address it.

Also, when plugins are selected, it might be a good idea to have the Manufacturers on the side get selected. Then when we unselect the Manufacturer, all of their plugins will be deselected.

Why doesn't this app automatically recognize new installed plugins and update changes on startup? I have to manually click 'scan' every time, and it rescans everything from scratch. Since I have a large number of plugins, it takes quite a while every time.

Plugoff caches your scan results, so when you open the app it loads your plugins from the previous scan automatically. You should only need to hit Scan if you installed new plugins.

If your plugin list isn't showing up when you reopen the app, let me know and I can look into it.

This is great, got rid of all those annoying AAX plugins. I like the data visualisation too. Very nice indeed.
