Logic doesn't traditionally pass sysex through software instrument channels, so that's probably why.

(I vaguely recall they might have changed that recently, but if it's not working for you, that might be a false memory...)

Oh wait, you mean outputting *from* the plugin..? Where are you directing the MIDI output from the plugin? You're selecting the output MIDI port at the top right of the plugin? It didn't seem to work for me when I tried either, clicking SEND doesn't result in any sysex being sent...

Yup. Nothing’s happening. Plogue’s OPS7 communicates just fine with my DX7 from within Logic.

Yep, I see the same behaviour here...

Alright then, I’ll send him a note. Thanks for confirming.

Is serial activation an option?
If internet activation is now the ONLY option for TAL plugins, I'm out.
Frustrating, however, I own use and very much like many of the serial-activated versions of Patrick's plugins.

In the upper right corner of the plugin activate Sysex-out-transmission by clicking the SYSEX button. Choose the MIDI destination port and hit send. If I do these 3 things then it works here. At least MIDI SYSEX message leaves the computer.

I believe that's what we're both doing. Not working in Logic. Are you doing this in Logic?

Thanks - there's not a lot of detail about this in the manual, and it's not a feature I will use, so perhaps that was indeed the issue - will check!

Ok - with the SYSEX button highlighted, I do indeed now get sysex output, so that was the issue. :tu:

I bought the plugin, I got a serial key, I copy/pasted that into the plugin (no internet connection), plugin works. Same as his previous plugins, afaicr.

One shouldn't need a thick skin to be on a forum about audio plugins. That some are such jerks here, especially given the state of the world at this moment, is disappointing. Things that really matter are happening out there and I expect many, if not most, of us are thankfully very insulated from that. There is enough negativity out there that one hopes to find some islands of fun once in a while. An audio forum should be that instead of yet another place where one needs a thick skin. Yet here we are saying "oh thats KVR for you" instead of expecting better of everyone here. Doesn't mean there can't be arguments, etc. but the default when you don't agree with someone shouldn't be "yeah well you're a f**king moron".

And someone who consistently gets suspended over exactly that type of behavior here should know better at this point. His routine goes like this. Gets suspended. Comes back and acts like an angel for awhile. Starts to act more like himself and instead of just downloading whatever plugin is in question and trying for himself states how it's useless and you're a moron if you use it. Sometimes he does eventually download the plugin and declare he was wrong and now it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Most times he keeps escalating until he gets suspended and the cycle starts all over again.

Off the soapbox.

On the topic: TAL-J-8X sounds good. JX-8P wasn't a complex synth but it sounded good. It was my first real taste of something beyond the barebones Six-Trak I started with. I think Patrick did a good job and he consistently provides support so issues will eventually be dealt with or features added to make people happy. It's not expensive. It's also not Diva, Serum 2, etc. Likely you can get most of the sounds out of just about anything else but for me the sweet spot was strings/pad sounds. And it's a bit of nostalgia and it means I don't have to have a real one taking up space and requiring maintenance. Personally done with that as I've got an SH-2 and Pro-One that do both of those things. Give me software any day of the week.

How do you connect your hw JX-8P and Computer via MIDI? Perhaps your hw JX-8P needs dual bi-directional MIDI connection? MIDI handshake or something?

You can check if SYX-MIDI-messages leave Logic and your Computer with free Snoize MIDI Monitor app.

Download: https://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/

I've tested in Logic Pro 11 latest version on an old Intel Mac here. I don't have a hardware JX-8P specifically but I get MIDI-SYSEX-Messages out of my Mac.

BONES wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 6:48 am You mean the noisy, shitty chorus from the Juno 6? No thanks.
JX8P did not have the same chorus as Juno did.
Careful. Bones might learn something.
