Right that's the surrounding circuitry around the filter chip (which is the same in both). And J8-X already allows for this, which is neat.jamcat wrote: Sun Apr 05, 2026 9:24 pmAlso the filter is different. The JX-8P is very tame, whereas the JX-10 filter will go into self-oscillation.

to me this sounds better than J-8 which I own
not sure if it's the modelled synth that I prefer or whether just the modelling on J-8-X is better ?
sounds much less hollow than the TALs J-8 (to me)
very tempted to buy

Don’t think I’d pay more for it.)

I still have the J8 but rarely use it.
Seemed worth a shot at the price

I have a lot of synths but I barely use any of them. Pretty much just the Arturia Solina and Minimoog. And sometimes the Prophet VS. But TAL-J-8X is going to get A LOT of use.

OK, here's my version of an alternative TAL-J8X skin. Tried to go for something classic, and yet modern and screen friendly.

Thanks for sharing.. Though I still prefer the original black background, what is nice about this one is that the blue and green difference in colours in the envelopes show up nicely in the sliders (much much better than the default skin I have been using)

And with a change of just the background to the default colour, FF191919,
I think I just arrived on what I will use from now on. rsp
edit:
actually changed it to the background from Pha:
FF303030

Sound Author, this is your video, I take it?
I have to say, your video and presets are excellent.
Finally, someone who really gets what the JX-8P is all about.
"I've tried dialing in pads and string beds in pretty much every other synth I have, and I just can't get there." YUP.
I can tell your JX-8P love affair has been going on long before the plugin.

Do TAL offer loyalty discounts? I was looking at getting their Juno 60 plug in too. Tired of the Roland one eating up so much CPU.

Plucks, pads, synth stuff, even synthetic e.piano stuff - for me, playing this instantly evokes the kind of cheap synth soundtracks on cheap crappy sci-fi/horror films of the 80s. It's super evocative for that in a way no other synths I have are - it's just a vibe I get with it (although in arrangements that aren't that it fills a different purpose.)Vortifex wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 11:57 pm I'm wondering what people like to use this for besides the unison/chorus pads. What specific things would this be your go-to for?
It's also popular for synthwave stuff, and it's pretty cool for basses as well. I dunno, I like it for apologetically synthetic sounds, that don't sound super analog but also don't sound super digital either. It's definitely an 80s synth, and it's definitely a Roland sound.
The JX8P/JX10/MKS70 has always been a synth/family that some people really like, and others just don't like the sound (I guess the Jupiter 6 has a similar love/hate thing too). I like them because they are, like the JP8, kinda unique in that nothing else sounds like them, which gives them a useful place in my synth arsenal.
