Sonic Warfare

Sonic Warfare (1 minute clip)

A bit of synth rock I recently finished. If anyone here is a gamer and has played one of the many Mega Man games, you know the kind of music I'm talking about... fast energetic synthy rock with catchy, up-front melodies. I love this kind of music, and I very much enjoy writing it, too.

The clip is in a lower resolution than the full version; that's the incentive to download the full song. :D

As for instruments, hmmm, let's see...

SampleTank 2
Claw
Tau Pro
DreamStation
Triangle I
Triangle II

I don't have all the (many) soft-synths I want yet, so I have to make due with what I have. :D

I've always liked pop music from different countries. This is one of the first Brazilian songs I'd heard and the first I learned to play.

and the short version:

i love analogue synths and like my music to sound like it comes from basic waveforms rather than resemble anything natural.

01_05_cold_c-improviz3tion.mp3 0.97MB 128kbps (track length 1:04).

Just playing a synth, in this case one instance of z3ta+ with a string-ish patch, no MIDI editing but I cropped to this section of the improvisation. Rendered using SIR with a PCM91room large chamber impulse from noisevault.

Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

music for me is largely about indulging idiosyncracies, whether listening or creating - it'd be great if i were one of those 'normal' folk who can spend the evening sat in front of the tv, but seems i'm not so here it is:

The Commercial House

i'm not sure what it's about exactly, lyrically i tried to combine the unholy trinity of advertising, prostitution and a slaughter house, so i guess it's a kind of spiritual - in an areligious kind of way, or just abstract nonsense. i tend to perceive things visually so if you are familiar with picasso's 'the carnal house', that's what i'm on about.

here's the shorter version, minus the 'big' ending:

The Commercial Maisonette

finally i really must say thanks to the developers whose fabulous products this was made with:
EnergyXT - my host of choice  . so deep and you attach your own 'bells and whistles'
Ohmforce Symptohmn PE
ConcreteFX Adder & Unison
Andreas Ersson's Lazysnake
Ichiro Toda's Synth1
Dream Vortex's Nanotron
sfz
PSP Nitro, MasterQ & Vintage Warmer
Kjaerhus Audio's Cassic Comp/EQ/Reverb
Slim Slow Slider's LPGEQ2

plus guitars, shakers and voice

My entry combines worship of my favorite bands with my dedication to exploring algorithmic music through custom coding.

Desert Island CD Malfunction (3:30)

Desert Island CD Malfunction (2 Minute Mix) (2:00)

Not sure which one I like better, but I suppose I don't really have to choose, considering they're generated randomly! (The 2 minute mix is perhaps a bit more aggressive, if that's your thing.)

Ingredients:

* Take my 12 all-time favorite albums
* Write a Winamp output plugin to seek through their tracks, extracting 32 random .5 second samples for each album
* Import them into pHATmatikPRO for auto-slicing and subsequent hand-tweaking to likely transients
* Trigger them via my usual custom MFX algorithmic generation suite
* Sprinkle with a little microTonic for steady pulse

Serves 8-12 weird music lovers. (The rest will invariably turn up their noses and claim that "it's not real music...")

Finally managed to put my entry up as well.

hellish

I decided to put a 96kbs version for the dial uppers, since I didn't like to shorten the thing. It's available here:

I really can't answer the what-who-why-where-when questions in just a tune, but at least this is a good example of how i like to make a musical mess with a bunch of non-compatible sounds...

It's called Prairiedog for some reason.
There are no lyrics. Tools used:
  • Jørgen Aase EnergyXT

    Linplug RM F + Easyrider
    Dash Signature Da Hornet
    Samick LSE450
    Bass Collection SB331
    Yamaha AN1x

    Kjærhus Classic reverb & compressor

Here's my track, hope you all like it. When I started doing music it was always Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis' music that inspired me, so hopefully you can hear that.

Swirling

Swirling - 2 minute edit

The 2 minute version isn't editied all too well to be honest but it should give an idea of the full version.

My entry: Tomorrow no more, and a Light version

[Edit: The Full version is updated too... I apologise for that, but when I create the short version I deleted the most boring part out of the full version as well... And changed the files names to comply to the contest rules :)]

I had planned to create something in the style of the Modern Jazz Quartet, but after choosing daOrgan instead of daVibes it went another way... more bluesy :). Still it's the style of music that I love most...

SaxLab, daOrgan, sfz (drums, bass, piano).

This was also my first try at applying GEQ, Crunchessor and GlissEq.

Here's my entry!! YAY!!! I did it! I had a really hard time thinking of what I'd do for this month's contest. Finally, after more than one month of non-stop thinking, I decided I should stop thinking and just get making the song.

What got me into making music was weird electronic stuff from Aphex Twin and company and I hope this song represents that sort of "experimental"(I hate that term!)nature. It's not exactly the sort of stuff he'd do but the point is not to SOUND like him. I'm just sort of paying tribute. The best way to do that isn't sounding like him, but rather trying to make something different.

Bla bla bla

The point is I made a weird song and you shall listen. If you like it, tell me how much. If you don't, pretend you do and tell me how much afterwards.

Oh! By the way! I had to cut part of the introduction so the song would fit the time limit so don't bother telling me it needs a better introduction. I know it does.(The way it was in the full version wasn't much better, actually).

I'll just shut up now and get on with it. HERE'S THE SONG:

Neurosurgery for dummies

And the 2 minute excerpt:

Neurosurgery for cheap dummies

I'm not in the mood to write about the gear. Probably nobody cares. If you do, say so in the gossip thread. Just get ready to see me making a huge monologue about how much BJ plugins rock.

Post

Didn't really understand the rules again this month, but here goes.

Song for America

It's kind of gritty and full of anguish. I made it that way on purpose.
Thanks for listening.

Okay.

Here's my song-thing. It's called "Breaks".

Yeah, it's too long...sorry.

I wish I had a hundred more hours to make everything perfect on it, but, deadlines are deadlines...the last 2 months have been really hectic...

http://sleek.phreque.com/sleekmonth_12005_breaks.mp3

Here's the shorter version:

http://sleekmonth_12005_breaks_excerpt.mp3

It's got all the stuff I like, and all of the stuff that got me into music. It's too big, has too much going on, it's too bombastic and the lyrics, though vague, are a bit dark.

...it's a little heavy, got a lot of changes, a little psychedelia and a big-ass guitar solo. It is not a 3 minute pop song. It sprawls, and takes its time doing it.

So there,

-S.
