All of these recent updates have gotten J8X practically 1-1 with the JX-8P, so much so that I am even considering shutting up finally.

He hasn't really said much about it. However, the fix in 1.0.6 addresses something that was making "some sounds much wider and softer, and the chorus also sound fuller... ", and so far, that seems to have addressed the smeared attack issue. As for the chorus, although he hasn't confirmed straight out that he modeled the JX-8P chorus in all of its exactness, he did show me measurement data and analysis graphs showing how the J8X's chorus compares to his JX-8P's. It's very close. I even sent him a sample of my 8P's chorus (our synths are the same revision, same OS), and he said he would calibrate J8X's chorus even further.zvenx wrote: Mon Apr 13, 2026 11:50 pm oh nice....
did he do anything with the limiter as far as you know?

But have you compared any JX-8P UNISON patches to TAL-J-X8?
How does Patrick’s novel approach to UNISON compare to the JX-8P?

Made some demos for my soon to be released sound bank. Perhaps it is time to hear some of TAL-J-8X in action:

I don't know if it is my imagination but my tracks are sounding different (crispier attacks but shorter releases)...hurricaneaudiolab wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2026 5:51 pm New version: 1.0.8

I even re installed 1.06 and did an a/b.... and they didn't null (but then again, neither did 1.08 and then 1.08 done a second time)

Yeah, that’s exactly what was being addressed by these updates. It’s more (if not the same) like the actual JX-8P.

I know in the past what he did, was somehow have older projects to keep the previous parameters or values and newer projects use the newer changes..
Seems like that didn't happen this time..

You should never expect a virtual analog to null with itself, unless it's very bad at its job.zvenx wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2026 8:47 pm I even re installed 1.06 and did an a/b.... and they didn't null (but then again, neither did 1.08 and then 1.08 done a second time)
I hate signatures too.

True, non-linearities suppose to prevent them from nulling completely, but I was surprised by how much they didn't null.

The only thing that matters is: is it closer or further from a real JX-8P?
According to hurricaneaudiolab, it is closer.
But now what about the J-8X UNISON modes compared to the JX-8P UNISON modes? Do they sound the same?

As soon as some of these other little things get sorted, I'll check on the unison. He did say it was a design choice and that you really wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
