For Lo-Fi beats, I actually prefer a basic soft clipper over a transparent limiter. It adds that nice grit and saturation to the kick that you just can't get otherwise. Sometimes 'clean' isn't what you want.

i heard a lot of mixing engineers but also mastering engineers are using clippers plugins or converters to clip their Drums. Most of the time it's Kicks.

nevermind lol (What I was saying is that I use EQ to manage my drums instead of a clipper)Tawix wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 12:57 pmit's nothing alikeHipster Bales wrote: Thu Feb 05, 2026 9:54 amI don't clip my drums. instead I EQ them.Tawix wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 3:17 pm Hey Guys,

I play around with transient plugins since I have them as I get more plugins into my drum effects folder I will try to figure out what to do with them as well.. allot of the time I don't use any effects at all on my percussion type sounds. I just collect the clippers in case I have a use for them later.

Generally Kclip. You can get it free but the full version is cheap and has multiband and several other distortion algorithms.
Newfangled Audio Saturate is also excellent and transparent. More often than not though, I just Bitwig Overs module for basic clipping.

Heavyocity Fury, the clipper in T-Racks, and Akai's clipper. Newfangled gets a lot of love so I might have to check that out, I have clipper/distortion addiction so..

You should never clip your drums. It’s a recipe for instant listener fatigue.
Instead, use tape saturation to achieve a dynamically responsive splatter.
