MonkSynth: Free, open-source Delay Lama remake (VST3/AU, Windows/macOS/Linux)

On the Mac, it appears that the pitchbend control is directed at the vowel control (left triangle next to the big field) and not to the actual pitch of the note. I think it requires some form of +/-pitchbend amount control.

I guess I remembered wrong. I thought PB was for pitch and cc 1 or 2 was for vowels. It's been a while. Thanks for the response.akadajet wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2026 6:53 pm Yeah, that's how the original plugin works. Play the vowel with the pitchbend, vibrato with the mod wheel.
So I have to ask: is actual pitch bending accessible at all in this thing?

Nope. But I wouldn't be against adding it.Weasel-Boy wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2026 6:58 pmI guess I remembered wrong. I thought PB was for pitch and cc 1 or 2 was for vowels. It's been a while. It helps if it goes into the GitHub issue tracker, but if not, I'll still probably look into it.

You’d have to change the Vowel to another cc to permit proper pitch bending. It’d be more versatile but not true to the original. I’d guess you’d have to put a switch into the generic UI to change the characteristics back and forth.

Yeah. I am thinking at some point there should be an advanced menu that increases the window size and exposes other controls. That could be a good place to stuff an option for changing the pitch bend behavior. I'll have to noodle on it.

I absolutely love what the Japanese users are doing with it so far. Haha.

Beta 8 lets you choose the behavior in the right-click context menu now...Weasel-Boy wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2026 5:01 pm On the Mac, it appears that the pitchbend control is directed at the vowel control (left triangle next to the big field) and not to the actual pitch of the note. And there's an automatable pitch bend parameter.

Wow. That was fast. Thank you. Is it possible to limit the range of the Pitchbend? You know: +2/-5 …etc? Just asking.

Hmm... I think most DAWs let you set the pitch wheel range, right? Maybe if I ever make an advanced UI, I don't want the context menu to get too crowded.Weasel-Boy wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2026 4:34 pm Wow. That was fast. Thank you. I did just add a couple of fun features. You can now have the pitch bend wheel control both pitch and vowel, and also pitch with inverted vowel. Adds a few more possibilities.

I suppose some DAWs can do it (Cubase isn't one of them or if it is, extremely difficult). This is typically a function with the synth. I don't think placing a PB+ and PB- set of controls into the Generic UI would be a bad idea, if you think the right click contextual menu is getting too crowded.akadajet wrote: Thu Apr 16, 2026 1:17 am

I see you're up to b11 withsome new features. You are fast. Thanks.

I'm working on the advanced UI. Just exposing the rest of the parameters via having the plugin resize.

Doing some research on this. It's interesting because it's clearly based on Delay Lama, they share a lot (all?) of the same DSP code. They sound different though, so It's been tweaked and customized. It does check for "Steinberg" in the host name. The size of the assets are different, but they are laid out similarly. The assets are smaller, maybe to save memory.Sahul wrote: Wed Apr 08, 2026 9:02 am Did you know there was also an alternative version called "Brother Gregory", available exclusively for Steinberg sequencers of the time (around 2005)?

I'm thinking of maybe adding a parameter that lets you morph the formants so you can get BG or DL like voice quality, or something in-between or extrapolated. Hmm...
I think this is the right way to go. A formant morph function under the advanced panel.
