Hi everyone,

Super excited to share this project - I've been working on it for nearly four years and poured a lot of love into it.

It's called filament. It's a real-time MIDI orchestration engine that runs as an instrument plugin in your DAW. You play chords on one keyboard, and filament can split, revoice, filter, and route those notes across multiple hosted instruments inside the plugin.

Keyswitches let you create variations, and you can host up to 64 instruments in a single instance. The obvious use case is orchestral writing, but it isn't limited to orchestral music. It's flexible and fairly deep.

Beta Status

The core workflow is already usable, but this is still beta. Current known issues:

• The built-in preset system isn't working yet, although you can save setups with DAW presets for now.
• A few things like plugin load time are slower than I'd like, and I'm working on optimizing them.

Current Features

• Hosting of up to 64 VST/AU instruments inside the plugin
• 12 keyswitches per setup
• 8 input layers (voices) per keyswitch
• Intelligent chord revoicing / note distribution
• Routing matrix for sending voices to different instruments
• Articulation handling
• Arpeggiator, clip launcher, and CC/modifier tools per instrument
• Built-in mixer with macro controls
• Support for AU/VST3 on macOS and Windows (Windows has had less testing so far)

Get Beta Access (Free)

Beta access is free. If you submit meaningful feedback during the beta, you'll receive a free perpetual v1.0 license.

Sign up: https://formalabsaudio.com

Click "Sign Up for Beta Testing" and the plugin should be added to your account straight away. The beta feedback system is also built into the plugin via the orange beta banner at the bottom.

This must be a really popular offer, because every time I try to sign up I get an "email rate limit exceeded" warning.

Post

I'm receiving the same error message.

Did you also confirm your email address first? The confirmation link for this was sent to me in an earlier & different email ...
That step missing has been the reason for me to also get an error message first, but after confirmation of my email address it worked to log into the account ... (although I cannot tell, whether it´s been a different error message ...)

Post

Hey all - this should be resolved now!

Happily it is partly because it's been popular, but please try again and if it doesn't let you through contact hello@formalabsaudio.com That will get you through to me and I'll get it sorted one way or another.

Post

Just for any Windows users, there's a critical bug thats stopping the plugin appearing in DAW for some users. Hoping to have it resolved ASAP.

Thank you for letting me in!

Glad its working now!

Two observations: I'm using MOTU Digital Performer as "other" DAW. For those interested, the setup involved making sure the plug is VST3 instantiated to ensure a published MIDI output. Use DP in Multi Record mode to see the MIDI ports.

Another observation: I am sight impaired, and the pale grey text on a black background is very hard for me to see, even with brightness and contrast adjusted.

I hope this is helpful information.

That's great thanks cuttime! Your not the first to mention the colours so I'll take a look at that and also look into adding some theme options. Did you manage to get a plugin hosting within it all okay?

Yes. it all worked.

I have it hosting plugins. When browsing for plugins, the search doesn't work. Also, it would be nice to be able to select multiple plugins at a time, or even the entire folder.

Anyway, so far, so good. When playing chords, it is sending voices to multiple instruments fine. I would like to be able to play a monophonic melody and have it send each note to a different instrument one after the other (based on note order, not range), is that possible?

Sorry if that's already answered in the fundamentals course. I actually couldn't get any of the courses before the arpeggiator course to load.

Awesome, thanks Cuttime!

Very cool! How about standalone functionality to host instrument plugins?

Hey Morty-C-137, it does actually already have standalone functionality doing exactly that. The standalone has midi ports in and audio out. I'll be honest I mainly set up the standalone to function as a testing ground while I was developing. So I'd be interested to here how you plan on using it? There might be some standalone functions I can add in.
