That guitarist was Reeves Gabrels.

As for Rush I have no LP or LP copy anymore so the Parker will have to do.

I don't take requests. I know some of you want me to play Celine Dion or Anne Murray
Close To You by The Carpenters! :hyper:

The Carpenters covered some great songs with intricate harmonic structures and Karen's voice was pitch perfect...

The layering in the harmony vocals was sensational...

There was a lot of musical integrity in that work...

I am not a fan of Celine Dion's voice, but she has covered some great songs and had an A Team of musicians, engineers and producers behind her...

Most of that work is toned down for commercial reasons, but in my experience, all of the people involved in the work at that level can play anything...

And when those peeps step up to the plate, they can smack the ball right out of the park

BTW : the guitar I was playing today was a Takamine EF-360 BG.....

It is a sensational instrument :tu:

No auto tune...

And Karen could play the drums, too. No, I like them. I remember where I first re-heard Close To You--The Simpsons. Bacharach, iirc. When it came out, it was too AM pop for me. I've grown to appreciate them in my old age, along with Glen Campbell, who blows my mind.

Karen could play the drums, but Hal Blaine took care of most of the drumming on the recordings...

He was part of "The Wrecking Crew"....

Glen Campbell was also a part of that team....

Those guys could really play ,but they also needed to feed their families

At my last job we could listen to music. One of my coworkers loved Celine Dion. He would play her and Phil Collins constantly. I found it amusing as he was this Huge African from Senegal.

As for Close to you.
Years back I played a chord melody version of it. Bill Tyers had transcribed it.

I bought my Epi Joe Pass because Tyers played one. BT's was a Samick built one in Korea as opposed to the CIC version. The CIC is much darker sounding they changed both the bracing and starting using "Formed wood"

Reeves Gabrels already had his moment long before the fly hit the market. So did

There were quite a few more "previous" trailblazers who tried to ride the Parker bandwagon. Vernon Reid and Jennifer Batten. I thought they were both Washburn show horses. Vernon Reid pitched the new er more strat Parker and Jennifer Batten had Adrian Belew's. JB lost her washburn deal and her signature model was falling apart. She bought another washburn that had some of the features (mostly the neck) Vernon Reid really didn't do anything major since Living Color.

Wrapping things together.

Today I've put an hour into my D'angelico Premier Tammany.

It's a little on the quiet side and my fingers last about 2 hours before I'm reaching for an electric.

That being said and all things being unequal I've spent about an hour working on some of Bill Tyers transcriptions Including the aforementioned "Close to You" and another A&M hit Raindrops keep falling on my head amongst others. I'm an hour in right now and... I'm only posting this so I remember what I did today.

What a disappointment, but some how my heart will go on.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

That’s true, especially if you consider ruining David Bowie’s career to be a “moment.” But he was still sold as some kind of trailblazing “guitarist extraordinaire for a new generation” in the guitar magazines at the time. He was like the Jordan Rudess of guitar in the ‘90s.

Reeves has been having another “moment” ruining the Cure for the past 15 years. He still hasn’t learned a single guitar part in all that time. It makes Perry Bamonte’s untimely death all that much worse.

Way back when I learned Memories from the musical "Cats" but it was the Streisand version. shortly thereafter I was banned from the dinner jazz circuit. Fun times
