Ligeti's 'Requiem' at a very tender age. Later, way too many who inspired, but principally Penderecki, Dockstader, Xenakis, TG, Boyd Rice, Nurse With Wound, Whitehouse, Maurizio Bianchi, The New Blockaders, Organum, The Hafler Trio, John Duncan, Etant Donnes, Merzbow. Plus Hildegard von Bingen, Lao-Tzu, William Blake, Austin Spare, Thomas Pynchon, Max Ernst, FT Marinetti, Luigi Russolo, Marcel Duchamp, Kurt Schwitters, Hermann Nitsch... have to stop here or I'll go all evening.

Oh, and I forgot... Current 93 (who scared the bezeezus out of me back in 1984) and Coil (whose dear departed Geff wrote some very encouraging words to me when I was starting out).

was just thinking, as a matter of fact today, how I still have the case my first guitar came in..forty years ago this last Christmas. What happened that inspired the 9 year old blueboy to beg and plead to his parents for a guitar?
1964 - the Beatles

The biggest ones:

KISS made me want to be a musician (I was 5). :P

The Cure picked up the slack KISS couldn't during the teen angst years. The mood, the playing, the genius. :(

Moby has had the biggest influence on me of any musician. NOT because of his music, but because his liner note essays helped me make my decision to become a vegetarian, a dearly held and enjoyed part of my life. :)
If every KVR member wrote one review a year we'd have 1340 reviews each day!

for as long as I can remember I've loved music
suppose I should say my uncle louie for giving me a stack of motown 45's when I was knee-high to a grasshopper
my mom for getting me a record player for christmas as soon as I became old enough to operate one
it came with some 45's too
'lola' by the kinks,'light my fire' by the doors,
and 'one bad apple' by the osmonds
I'm sure she had no idea who the hell these people were at the time :hihi:

My cousin Adrian who we all thought was uber-cool because she had american flag bell bottoms and taught us how to tie-dye
who along with my older brother (by 7years)
introduced me to Black Sabbath,Jimi Hendrix,Yes,Roxy Music w/Eno,Bowie,T-rex,and the Velvet Underground etc etc

after that I was on my own
just in time for the new wave

for most of my life I was just a music fan.
when I finally got around to trying to make music
it was articles about, and interviews with Eno that
gave me the notion that it could be a fun thing you could do even if you never formally trained to do it.
