It works either way, either start playback in the plugin (DAW playback can be stopped), or start playback in the DAW (which starts playback in the plugin). Hope that answers your question!
Thx for your quick response...

Yes to make sure: And if I start the transport in the plugin it will just
1. playback the sample (not start the host´s transport)
2. the sample will be played back synced to host tempo (already timestretched) even if I just start transport in the plugin?
3. Does the plugin block the "Spacebar" for starting playback instead of letting it through to the host?

A second thing:
If the I use the plugin in the host, can I navigate through the samples with the arrow keys of my qwerty keyboard?

I.e. I like to use Arrow up/down to select the next/previous sample... and the most important part:
Arrow right to start sample playback and even more important arrow right retriggers playback even if the sample is still playing! Like for example FL Studio´s or Ableton´s browser do...

An alternative for the arrow right start/retrigger would be to accept midi input for triggering samples playback respectively retrigger...

Sorry for all of these questions... :tu:

These are good questions.

1. Yes, correct
2. By default yes, but you also can check a box in the plugin to not timestretch it and / or unsync the BPM from the DAW and pick an arbitrary BPM to timestretch to
3. This is based on focus. If the plugin is in focus, the spacebar goes to the plugin. If the DAW is focused (you can still have the plugin open and on top) the spacebar will go to the DAW.

Yes, arrow up and down in the plugin works and is very fast and you can check the "autoplay" box.

We do not have right arrow as play or retrigger. That would be an easy add though.

Would it make more sense for the spacebar to always go to the DAW regardless of focus and have right arrow be play/retrigger for plugin? Maybe make this behavior an option? Interested in people's thoughts on this one.

An arrow as retrigger would be great! Actually, left arrow seems more intuitive to me than right arrow, but would be happy with either.

To me, spacebar function could be left intact as is, with an arrow to retrigger (and also play).

I can just tell from my perspective...
In every DAW the spacebar is triggering Start/Stop of the Sequencer which is imho indispensable.
No function of a plugin can match the importance to quickly start/stop the playback of the DAW without having to click first somewhere to change the focus...that's just too distracting...

Spacebar should imho never be blocked by a plugin... if this happens I turn off keyboard support for this plugin which is luckily possible in FL Studio.

Having some kind of "Trigger" option in a sample browser is for me again indispensable as especially for shorter One-Shots you simply get a better "feeling/idea" about the sample (if it fits to the projects content) when you can retrigger it multiple times... instead of having to drag it into the project just for trying this...

Even with long samples it can be a great help to retrigger them in a meaningful way (i.e. in a felt quarter note rhythm)... it gives you a different impression of the sound or better it´s "versatility" instead of hearing it just one time through...

Midi in support would be one method but I prefer right arrow by far as I already use in such a scenario the arrows up/down to change the selection and it´s a perfect match for me... it´s simply superfast and convinient!

I often see videos of people when working in a DAW which has "just" autoplay for the preview, going up and down (or otherway round) to trigger a sample multiple times... but I find it too cumbersome and irritating especially when the other sample underneath and/or above sounds horrible or at least complete different... it´s working somehow but isn´t the real thing...

So if it wouldn´t bother you too much to integrate, it´would be a great help for people working like me! :tu:

I hear you that changing focus is distracting. I would like to clarify your ideal / proposed flow. Is it this: If plugin is focused, spacebar goes to DAW but arrow keys go to plugin? If plugin window is open but not focused, where would the arrow keys go here for you ideally? (Keeping in mind having arrow keys going to the DAW is important, but want to understand your proposed / ideal flow first). Thanks!

Looks like the text is wrapping on one of the columns. You can expand the width of that column for now and I'll make sure the default width doesn't cause a wrap in a later release. Thanks!

Also, quick update: the latest release includes a significant performance improvement for imports and analysis. If you've been experiencing slower than expected processing times (documented in the system requirements and the manual), then grab the latest update through SonikCentral.

Yes, spacebar should always go to the DAW... one exception though: If a naming field like this is active:
Text.jpg
Spacebar should go to this text field to be able to insert spaces if possible...
Some plugins do that...some don´t... I don´t know if it´s technical limitation or no interest in doing it...
If plugin window is open but not focused, where would the arrow keys go here for you ideally? (Keeping in mind having arrow keys going to the DAW is important, but want to understand your proposed / ideal flow first). Thanks!
I think, if a plugin window isn´t in focus it should never block any incoming key presses for it´s own stuff... so arrow keys should go in this case to the DAW...

I just take FL Studio here as an example as it´s seperate sections (i.e. browser, channel rack, mixer, playlist) just use incoming keyboard shortcuts when the wished window is in focus...
So the arrow keys here are just working for previewing/navigating in the browser when the browser window is in focus... if not they are sent to the section which is...

I think it´s the most "natural" behaviour things in focus get keyboard focus... things not in focus don´t...

Yup, this makes sense, thanks!

I get the feeling this is a paid early beta

Post

I wouldn't say so, I'm on my last day of the trial, but it's been rock solid, fast and the developer has been fast to accomodate people's requests. That doesn't make it feel like a beta to me.

Agree.

I'm evaluating this one, I installed the VST and built up a 600k sample library. Is there a way I can install the standalone version as well as the keep the currently installed VST without having to uninstall the VST and wipe out the index I built already

Post

Yes. The way to do this is to start SonikCentral and click "Uninstall" but when prompted after this, click "Keep Database." Once uninstalled, then click "Download" and then "Install" in SonikCentral to install the program again, making sure to select standalone as one of the packages to install (by default it is selected).
