I'm very boring: I just play the same guitar every day.

Post

tbh, I play the same guitar 99% of the time, as well. I have a second version of it, which is the exact same guitar except with EMG pickups, that I use for making videos, but I stick with the original all other times.

I played the Dangelico 17 inch exl-1 jazz box. The action can't go down any further and that annoys me as there is plenty of gap to do so. It's okay not great but it was nice to go through some jazz standards.

My Lakewood M-18. needs a string change. For ac guitar in a mix, this is my go-to. Well balanced, with a sweet tone. A touch clinical on its own. Very clear bell-like tone. Top AAA Euro Spruce, back and sides solid Ovangkol. Ebony fretboard. Bought March, 2008.
The top has gone from almost soft gold to streaky, with one side a bit darker than the other.
45 mm nut. Next up for a string change.

Changed the strings at 1:00 AM this morning. Played it for about 1.5 hours into the wee hours.
I‘ve found that my acoustics require at least some changes in picking and fingering techniques, and sussing out the best picking technique and angle of the pick has significant effects on the tone. Each one is the same in the usual ways, but they all have their ideosycrasies and subtleties.
The top, as I said, was pretty much a uniform blond when I bought it.

It's a strat kind of day. Funny I've wanted another strat for many years after I had to sell the last one. Now that I have one and I've given it a good run for the money I've put it aside for other guitars.

That strat needs replacement pups. Some songs it works fine on and others it goes to hell in a handbasket quick. Sadly I don't have money for replacement pups at this time.

Today it's a Parker Day. Love the action. The tone is great even though it's not really the tone I'm looking for for my covers.
The closer I get to "Truth" in tone for a particular song the more the music flows out of me.

It's been about an hour of scales and scale patterns so far.

The cheap pickups on Amazon are good. I've been doing the trick of getting high powered single coil-sized humbuckers and wiring them in parallel, they sound better than most Fender noiseless pickups that way.

My Yamaha FS-3. An acoustic I'd readily recommend trying.
I was going to say that this was the last guitar I bought in 2023...but then I remembered the PRS SE. :dog:
Which is due to be my next electric to pull out.

My Missus asked me this evening: "How many guitars do you own?"
I wasn't sure.

High gain isn't my bag.

More scale patterns on the tele today. Also working out my Steely Dan stuff. For a time I could prolly put on a tribute show of Steely Dan as I knew more songs than they prolly did when Steely Dan was resurrected in the 90's

After that I may try my hand at learning some piano parts for those steely dan songs.

I changed the strings on my Yammie FS3. This little guitar has been compared favourably to a Martin 000-18. I‘ve never played that Martin model, but this is an astounding small body sitka/hog guitar. With fresh string it‘s a small cannon. Don‘t know long I‘ll play it today. One of our cats is not long for this world. :(

When you wire high output side-by-side single coil-sized humbuckers in parallel, it makes them sound like vintage output single coil pickups.
